January 16, 201511 yr Officials at Duke University say "security concerns" were part of the reason to reverse plans to allow a Muslim call to prayer to sound from a campus chapel bell tower. Plans changed because the Durham, North Carolina, school's effort to "unify was not having the intended effect," Michael Schoenfeld, vice president for public affairs and government relations, said in a statement Thursday. "Duke remains committed to fostering an inclusive, tolerant and welcoming campus for all of its students," Schoenfeld said. Duke reverses decision to allow Muslim call to prayer - CNN.com

January 16, 201511 yr Private school they can do what they wish, but i do believe big name donors probably had a huge part of this. They do have ties with the Methodist Church.
January 16, 201511 yr Isn't Duke a Methodist school? I think like a lot of schools over the years, Duke's relationship to the religious groups that founded it is tenuous at best. Like the well-meaning Protestants that founded the major universities in New England, they're not really tied to them anymore and would scarcely recognize them.
