Holmes 67 Newport 61

Featured Replies

Final.

Holmes trailed by 9 at the end of 1 (Newport came out shooting lights out), 5 at the half, then used a 16-2 run to take control.

Snapp hit a couple late 3's and Holmes missed some fts to give you the final.

Newport was led by Ethan Snapp (22 pts), Paul Price ( 17 & 7), Dom Joseph (11 pts), and Kam Covington (8 & 8) in the loss to Holmes.

Holmes was led by Marcus Mullins (18 pts), James Bolden (16 pts), Markel McClendon (15 pts), and Rod Avery (10 pts) in the win over Newport.

Another balanced night for the Bulldogs. Marcus Mullins has been really good these past few games.

This margin has me scratching my head. :wideyed: Was it a bad shooting night or poor defense for the Dawgs, or did Newport just play over their heads?

Must have been all of the above and more,,,

Newport played as well as they probably could in the first half and came out with more intensity than Holmes. McClendon sat the entire 2nd qtr and Holmes wad 3-10 from outside.

Second half they picked up the intensity and pressure defensively and quit settling for jumpers which led to easy baskets.

I said in the prediction thread this game would be close and it was, just made since playing HC the night before and Cooper Friday, plus Newport has a couple of nice players, Snapp is the real deal, enjoy watching him play, I thought Mullins had a really nice game considering he sat a lot with 4 fouls, Andrew Arnold is a unsung work horse on this team, the young man plays hard just like he does in football, good luck to Newport and Holmes.

Also hope Walter got the ally oop dunk by Avery, it was nice.

The oop and baseline dunk where he put a Newport defender on a poster were both pretty nice.

It was a battle down low between him and Covington. Very physical.

I don't think Walter ever misses a Holmes dunk.

Snapp played pretty well tonight for Newport. Aggressive and let the game come to him. Didn't force anything.

Really entertaining game.

Newport showed what they can do when they really enter a game focused.

They were pumped and driven.

Their FG average the first half was downright amazing with hard earned, smart no false moves, scoring.

Even the gods were with them sometimes helping them get the right bounces.

Snapp's first points of the night were a good example as it bounced countless times on the rim and made sure to hit every part of it before ultimately dropping in. I just wonder how many seconds past while it stayed up there kissing every inch of that rim?

At the same time, the Dawg's shots wouldn't drop allowing the Wildcats to keep extending their early game lead.

In the second half you could see where Newport was increasingly getting tired and just couldn't manage many times at finishing at the rim, all the while Holmes kept turning up their intensity showing why they were the favorites entering the contest.

The sense early on that Holmes had plenty of time to turn the ship around came to fruition.

Late in the 4th while Holmes kept driving the dagger deeper, Newport dashed any other game plan and finally just resorted to letting Snapp do whatever he could to keep it interesting. Although in a coming up short effort he still managed to keep it interesting in only the way Snapp can.

I have to hand it to Newport for giving it all they had, and hopefully even in losing, it helped to build their confidence. They couldn't possibly have walked away at the end of this game with hanging heads. They really brought it and should be really proud of their effort.

Also, I already dug what McClendon and Boldon can do, but I'm really quickly becoming a big fan of Mullins and Avery. Those two are dynamite.

Poster...??

Poster...??

I hope it was not Snapp on the poster! CoachW may not like that.

Poster is a term used to describe a monsterous dunk over another person. The dunk is so great, they make a 'poster' of it. Bad part is, the kid getting dunked on is also in the poster.
