Hopkinsville 74 Apollo 72

Final

Both teams played well. I actually think Apollo outplayed Hoptown but came up just shy. Eli Wright made a 3 to tie with 8 srconds left that was clutch. It's a shame anyone had to lose this game.

Apollo has to change something

It sounds like they're playing their best basketball of the season.

They've lost some tight ones, but the Eagles are getting better.

Either they have changed something or Hoptown is overrated. They were #7 in the state in the last BGP Top 20.

Apollo played a great game tonight, and lead most of the game. Hoptown's press was as tough as I've seen in awhile. This was the type of game in which Eli Wright could thrive as he got plenty of chances to slash and drive to the basket. I think he must have had close to 30 points tonight. Apollo PG Moss really struggled with the press as the Hoptown guards were bigger than him and played him tight.

As far as the comment that Apollo has to change, they really looked good this weekend. I know they lost both games but they were to two really good teams by a combined total of 3 points. They looked a whole lot better than what I saw of them in the OIT or that tournament in Lexington last week. Besides if rumors are true than it won't be long until they add a 6'7" player with D1 offers. I guess that would be considered a change.

Apollo definitely had a chance at the end, but a mishandled pass helped Hoptown run out the clock. It has been said before and will be continued to be spoken, Hoptown needs to find a way to score that doesn't always involved Matlock.

Meant has had changed but im loopy due to sickness

I think they are a little high. That play Henderson soon at home. Should know more then

Watching Apollo all season you can see they are still trying to find their way as a team. They are starting to turn the corner. I think Barker thought they could get away with playing a full court pressure defense and being a team that likes to run up and down the floor and aside from a few players(Wright and Moss) they just dont have the ability to do that. The last two days they have settled into a nice half court zone that frustrated OHS and Hoptown a little bit and made them at least work for buckets. On the offensive end they have cut down on the forced passes and bad shots and started to have much much better possessions. The talent is there for this team to make a run. Im not even worried about any transfers right now. Whatever happens happens. I think Apollo can do damage with the team they have. If Trace Young is able to join them down the stretch, and they can find a way to continue to gel with him, this will be an extremely dangerous team come March.

As for this game itself, I think Apollo did out play Hopkinsville thru the game but similar to the OHS game, folded up in the last 2 minutes. Apollo again held a 3 point lead with the basketball under 3 minutes and turned it over two consecutive trips. Wright nails a clutch 3 to tie the game with 16 ticks left but Hoptown rushed down the court in a fury to get an easy lay in with about 6 seconds left. Hoptown gets on you as quick as ive seen a team get on you. As soon as you score you better be back on offense because they push the tempo. They picked up a lot of easy buckets by simply beating Apollo down the floor. Hoptown also got some bounces. I think they banked in at least 2 3 pointers late. Apollo got a good look on the in bounds again, on a long outlet pass to Zach Hopewell but he couldnt gather it in as he was sandwiched between two Tiger defenders to seal the deal. I think Apollo may have found them something with Zach Hopewell in this game. He attacked the basket all day and took some of the pressure off Wright in the half court. Hes a kid to keep your eye on going forward for Apollo. Losing sucks, but im going to have to take this weekends games as moral victories after they way Apollo has played up until this point.
