Lex Cath Traditional Bank top performers

Great chance to see players from around the state this week st Lexington catholic! Here's my top performers. I saw every team play and these are my observations

1. David Simmons is a winner. Saw him battle Ray Spaulding in the post on Monday night and then guard tanner Johnson on Tuesday night. Not to mention his offensive exploits!! I take him on my team any time!!

2. Ray Spaulding . Needs to ramp his motor but is a unique taleny! Potential wise class of Rodney!

3. Eli wright . Athletic . Flies! No doubt he's a high major. ( do not like the fact he lets his team continually lose by 20 points. That said he is an unbelievable speciman

4. Braxton Beverly . Quintacential point! Love his game! The hype is deserved

5. Tanner Johnson. Maybe most improved and least talked about in state! Love the way he scores now in multiple ways. He may be the best pure shooter in the state and is 6'6..hearing multiple D1 offers are flowing in!

6. Colten Elkins . Quickest jump in the state. Best rim protector I've seen in ky high school in many years!!

7. Hagen Tyler. Northern getting a good one ! Can score in multiple ways! Underrated athletically! Love his demeanor on the court

8. Christian Thieneman .love this kid. If not for the suffocating offensive scheme of Szabo would put up huge numbers.

9. Jax levitch . Nice stroke. Long and uses length to board. Needs to score in other wYs than the 3. Only way he scored all week!

10. Matt rose. Really improved his game. Nice length. Must develop a right hand

His only offer right now is from Air Force.

You may be right wireman on that. Talked to his coach (Salsman) and Marshall is close to offer and navy has offered. He'll play at that level IMO. I talked to coach Salsman after semi finals and got the impression there were more schools involved than just Air Force..

I'm sure there are other schools taking looks at him but I just know what I was told yesterday. He has an offer from Air Force and he's waiting until the Spring to see what else comes along.

1. David Simmons

2. Braxton Beverly

3. Dewayne Sutton

4. Colton Elkins

5. Matt Rose

6. Jeremiah Bell

7. Tanner Johnson

8. Hagen Tyler

9. Ray Spalding

10. Jarod Griffin

Eli Wight is a great prospect but if he was that good they would have won more than one game. Just saying.

Everybody craps on Ray Spalding but if he went to a different school and played in a different system he would average 20/20 easily.

Here's a quote I heard yesterday...

"All I know is that I don't expect a high major kid to be on a team that is losing by 27 points."

Everybody craps on Ray Spalding but if he went to a different school and played in a different system he would average 20/20 easily.

I'm not going to crap on Ray but he does come across as someone who kind of gets lost in the fold. He shows flashes of greatness but it's not consistent. Now that might be because of Trinity's system or whatever but I get the feeling that he should be doing more.

Sutton was an omission . Nice call PP92.. Your list was actually better than mine! ( I think I saw the most games this week but you actually may have) ha!! I think we see eye to eye on most of them!

I blame the system. He's a hell of a player when he is actually let loose.

I LOVED watching him play. He does it all. If he had Simmons attitude.......

I think that any discussion should start with the all tourney team:

All-tournament team: David Simmons (MVP), Brady Norman, D.J. Washington of Henderson County; Tanner Johnson, Jarod Griffin, Michael Talbott of Lexington Catholic; Ray Spalding, Daniel Ramser of Trinity; Jeremiah Bell, Hagen Tyler of Boyle County; Matt Rose, Kyle Rode of LCA; Dwayne Sutton of Manual; Eli Wright of Apollo; Braxton Beverly of Perry Central.

The title of the thread is top performers in the tournament. While 6/8/9 (on initial post) on the list are nice players they were not top performers in the tournament. I would replace them with Bo Schuh of CovCath, Daniel Ramser of Trinity and Hayden Hawes of Oldham County.

Seeing this thread reminds me of the origins of this tourney and the old gym (which I actually played in 1 time). That tourney included Elton Brand (DUKE), Kareem Shabaaz (PROVIDENCE ?), Kenny Gregory (KANSAS), Jaron Brown (PITT), Vanhoose (MARSHALL?), and a slew of other unbelievable players. I think the next year Southern Lab and Maine Central Institute brought in some freakish talent along with another stellar crop of teams. My Christmas Holiday season was set around this tourney. It is still a great tourney, but those 1st couple years wer just a must for basketball junkies.

A few thoughts from the few games I watched this week.

I thought Sutton looked much better than Wright when they played Tuesday. I think he is a legit Mr Basketball finalist.

I've always thought Spalding was a bit overrated as a high school player. He has a ridiculous ceiling, and I was actually much more impressed with him the two times I saw him this week than I had been in previous years. I'm not sure if it's him or the system or what, but he doesn't seem to take over games like some other top players do.

I'm glad more people have finally got to see how good Simmons is. It's typically tough on WKY kids who don't haven't made the Sweet 16 to make a name, but they have traveled central kentucky enough that his name was bound to get out there eventually.

Everybody craps on Ray Spalding but if he went to a different school and played in a different system he would average 20/20 easily.

Wish other people would realize this.

Put him with a team like Ballard, who likes to get up and down the floor and has better overall athletes, and he would truly be able to showcase his skill set both defensively with his length and offensively with his ability to handle the rock, hit the mid range jumper in transition, or go to the rim and throw one down on somebody with a lob.
