As a sit here on the couch, with a glass of my favorite bourbon in hand, waiting on my wife and girls to get ready to head to the in laws- I just got to wondering how everybody does their Christmas Eve celebrations?

 

Just you and your immediate family? Do you all head on the road to your side of the fam? Your in-laws? Everybody come to you all and leave later tonight or do you all do your best impression of "Christmas Vacation" & try to house 10-20 under the same roof for a night full of fun and memories?

 

Like I said before, we'll head to my in laws here in a bit (about 45 minutes away), come back tonight...do the Santa thing in the morning...some from my extended family will come over for a brunch type meal, then we will head to my parents tomorrow afternoon.

Daughter is home with us for a couple of days. Went to see The Hobbit this afternoon after eating out for lunch. Supper here. Always have a tradition of opening one present per person after supper.

If you have kept "How to master Christmas" notes over the years being the only man in the house amongst the women folk, keep them, I have a feeling I'll need them in the years to come. :laugh:

About to head to my uncle's house. Dad's side of the family. Norwegian Christmas Dinner: meatballs, pinnekjott (ribs), lutefisk (cod cooked in butter), lefse (potato flatbread). Midnight Mass to follow.

At the in laws now. Sitting in the living room (by myself) waiting on a glass of wine. Mother in law LOVES to cook and I love to eat.

 

Should be a fun next couple of days.

Christmas Eve mass. Then, only Christmas lights or candles on in the house. Potato soup. I don't know why we do potato soup, might of been something we did as kids ourselves. Our kids always look forward to it.

I got both of these albums for Christmas back in 1981.

We opened our presents on Christmas eve.

We do our Christmas with my wife's family on Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve service at 10. Come home and watch A Christmas Story while wrapping a gift or two.

As a kid we always did Christmas Eve at my grandparent's house then Christmas morning at our house with my parents and brothers. Later in the day we would go to my aunt's house with all the family.

 

Since my grandparents passed away we haven't done anything on Christmas Eve.

 

I'm currently sitting here at my house just watching some TV.

Spent the day with my son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter and my son's mother-in-law. Snacked on appetizers, then went to Mass. Back home to a wonderful dinner. Opened family gifts so tomorrow morning will be all about Santa for the little one. Had dessert and noW watching Elf. This has been the routine the last 2 years, so I think that's what will be the norm going forward.

Daughter is 24 and INSISTS on keeping up little traditions. Live tree, opening one present on Christmas Eve, stuff like that. Just a little while ago she was playing Christmas carols on out piano.

 

I for one enjoy that.

I'm letting them dictate where I fit into the holidays. The sons dad has very rigid traditions, so I don't want to make anything tougher on them. This seems to work for all, and it's really nice to have the whole day. Before little K came along, we always chose a day in January to celebrate so we could have a quality time together. I'll continue that with my daughter and her fiance, so I'll be looking forward to yet another celebration.
