Freedom Has Prevailed! The Interview Being Shown Afterall

'Freedom has prevailed!': 'The Interview' being shown in theaters on Christmas | Fox News

Sony announced Tuesday the limited release of the embattled film "The Interview" beginning Christmas Day.

The move comes after the studio's widely criticized move to cancel the movie's release following threats from hackers who crippled the company's infrastructure and published the private information of thousands of employees and business associates.

"We have never given up on releasing 'The Interview' and we're excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Entertainment. "At the same time, we are continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience."

"I want to thank our talent on 'The Interview' and our employees, who have worked tirelessly through the many challenges we have all faced over the last month," Lynton said. "While we hope this is only the first step of the film's release, we are proud to make it available to the public and to have stood up to those who attempted to suppress free speech."

Like we didn't know that was going to happen.

Cheap marketing Sony...

The radio said the only place in this area (Greater Cincinnati) that has been announced to be showing the movie is the Esquire in Clifton.

Smart move, nobody wants to mess with people in Clifton.

This has nothing to do with freedom. Sony big wigs scared to death of the info that could come out. Now US gov has their back so they will release the movie. Self-serving not a battle for freedom.

I can't believe anyone really cared one way or the other.

I'm not the least bit interested in seeing this movie. I wasn't before this whole debacle started, and this exposure has not increased my interest in it one bit.

I'm not even certain that this whole thing wasn't some underhanded ploy to draw attention to the movie just to ultimately make more money, and that is not at all a far fetched idea.

Very regularly my filters have to be ready for just about anything I hear in the news. Just because they tell us something doesn't make it so, and that has been true many times in the past. Propaganda is not only something other countries do. We certainly have more than our fair share of it.

Let's say it truly was hackers from North Korea. I'm in no way supporting what they allegedly did, but how hard is it to see how they'd not be too thrilled with the content of the movie? If the shoe was on the other foot, and another county made a movie about knocking off one of our prominent figures, our country wouldn't be too happy about that either.

I'm all for freedom, and not wild about censorship, but I'm also for exercising good judgement and just because you have the freedom to express doesn't always mean that you should, or that it's a good idea to do so, especially when your intent is to offend.

Sure, the guy in Cincinnati with the Zombie Nativity scene in his front yard has the right to have it there, but ultimately he's doing it for shock value with the intent to tick people off. He might have the freedom, but at the end of the day, he's just a shortsighted idiot.

With that said, I'll add that the Esquire Theatre and the Mariemont Theatre are the only movie theaters in the whole area that I pay any attention to when it comes to entertaining the idea of going to see a movie. They have a rich history of providing quality movies, some mainstream, and many not, void of the ordinary trite lameness that many seem to find appealing with what is found in many of the ordinary block buster type movies that the masses flock to. I find that typically mainstream block buster movies are nowhere near my cup of tea, and I avoid them like the plague.

A friend of mine in LA thought the movie was funny.

Foriegn hackers hack into our Banks and Credit Card companies all the time and actual money is stolen. Remember in October (2 months ago) when JP Morgan was hacked and 76 million "households" were affected by that breach? You probably don't - Folks dont like it but deal with it - it's hardly news any more.

Someone hacks into Hollywood for a few emails and the new James Bond script and we need a Presidential response.

Good Grief

Heard from a friend who went and seen it in Atlanta that it was the worst 2 hours of his life it was so bad.
