It's a computer ranking, correct?

99% sure it is.

It has to be. Numbers are interesting. You can use them to bolster or dismiss arguments. Sometimes both at the same time. lol

I'm hoping Beechwood, Cooper and NCC can pull the upsets on Friday night.

It's a computer ranking, correct?

Dates to the 1920s. Uses a "secret" formula to predict winners only, not point spreads. The wider the gap, the greater the probability the higher rated team will win. This predates computer technology. The "ratings service" was sold to newspapers all over the US when college football was king. This was prior ro NFL rising to prominence. This ratings system was used to recognize the Kentucky High School football champion in football by the Courier-Journal until the playoffs started. I believe the ratings were used by the kHSAA to choose playoff teams through 1970, prior to districts. I am certain the AAA class (the highest level-all Jefferson County-1959 through 1974) championship game pitted the highest rated city team versus the highest rated county team for the title through 1970.

Dr. Litkenhous was a St. Xavier alumnus. I believe he was a University of Louisville Alumnus and he was a professor at U of L.

4A is a mess. How does Johnson Central rate so high on a pretty weak schedule? They lost to Cov Cath and yet the Colonels are ranked below them.

How does Boyle County get rated above Lex Cath when the Rebels lost twice to them in the season?

Never cared too much for Lit. This just is another reason.

Interesting history behind the numbers, thanks.

How about Class A? 1-4 remain. The "perfect" semi-state round!

thsrocks---I think years ago they used the Dickenson System to figure out who the playoff teams were. Very few people knew how it worked.

Correct, except 1 v 2 and 3 v 4.

Just boring really exhausting crap that I have been reading for 30plus yrs from Dave Cantral

In two short weeks we will have 6 Champions, nothing more and nothing less and his opinion will be just that...:thumb:

Newport's above NCC and NCC beat Newport twice. Walton Verona is above Newport and Newport beat them twice. :idunno:

According to these rankings, Mayfield would be the favorite to win 1a, 2a, 3a and 5a and would be the favorite to represent the west in 4a.. Pretty impressive.

It is impressive. And I thought the Cardinals were supposed to be in a rebuilding mode this year...
