Newport Central Catholic 71 Mason County 60 (Scrimmage)

Featured Replies

Good, competitive scrimmage. Mason county started off fast and went up 11 early, NCC was up 1 at the half and ended up breaking away in the end.

Thanks for the info. :thumb:

How did Pig Williams look? Did any of Mason's youngsters play?

Pig looked good. Him and Dorian Henry will be tough to stop in the 10th. Isaiah garrison the freshman played some and played pretty well.

Did Amani Thomas start?

Yes he did

Unfortunately I couldn't make it today, who looked good for the Breds?

  • Author

Zach Pangallo, Drew McDonald and Ben Weyer.

I'll post stats and a recap when I get home.

Zach Pangallo, Drew McDonald and Ben Weyer.

They didn't graduate? Geez

Nice preseason matchup. Both teams should be able to take away some positives.

As others have stated this one was very competitive. Mason had a 4 point lead after one, but NCC came back to hold a single point lead at the break at 33-32. The 3rd quarter was the difference maker, as NCC built a 9-point lead and held on to win by 11. Both teams had bright spots, but still have room to work with. That's kinda scary for the Breds as the trio of Weyer, McDonald, and Pangallo combined for 69 points. I'd take 14 Zach Pangallos and be really happy with the result. Kid plays like his hair is on fire! On Masons side, Pig Williams looks to have improved over the summer, as has Dorian Henry. If they can find a solid 3rd option, they may close the gap between them and campbell

NCC leaders:

Zach Pangallo 23 (12-12 FT)

Drew McDonald 23

Ben Weyer 23

Grant Moeves 2

Mason leaders:

Dorian Henry 22

Pig Williams 12

Cameron Frame 9

Let's talk about the Breds JV team win. This game was great. Mason Co JV was a very good team coached well and them guards was quick.. Steven Pangallo did a great job in the beginning quarter with D against the guards he pretty much shut them down. Brennan Hall was hitting 3's stealing passes for lay ups and had a really good game. What I really like the most this week was team work and passing the ball around lots better then the scrimmage against Elder that game was hard to watch. Glad the are starting to gell.

I want to talk about Johnny the silent player that will bust a 3 on that court at anytime. Brennan Hall set him up with three 3 point shots and he came through each time. I like this kids game. He knows he's role and he plays it to perfection.

This JV team is going to be hard to beat... can't wait to play Holmes in the season.

The stat line for Drew, Zack, and Ben come as no surprise to me after seeing them in practice and over the summer. All three are capable of dropping 30 on any given night. Easily one of the best trios in the state.

Believe Isaiah had 5 in the varsity game. Tweaked his back in the jv game and was moving a little slow.

Breds JV looked great. Mason has 3 players not dressed that could've really helped. Believe Isaiah, the freshman point guard had 16
