The 3 best seniors I've seen are Dunaway.Slaughter and Buckner. This award does not always go to the best player. If you remember Curtis Pulley had the best stats last year and Tilford won which was a surprise to me. All 3 of the above had similar stats with imo Dunaway played the hardest competition night in and night out. All 3 are deserving in my opinion. We will see in a couple of weeks. Good luck to all mentioned.

The problem is, that there are no stedfast and consistent criteria for Mr. Basketball. Nobody knows how they are picked. Stats? Won/Loss record?

How far team advanced? How far the team went the year before? College potential? Who knows?

By the term itself, MR. Basketball, seems to leave TEAM out of the equation. I would like to know how many Mr. Basketballs of the past averaged scoring less than 20 points per game.

It seems that Mr. Basketball, by name, is an individual honor, not based on team performance but individual performance. I wouldn't think that it would be based on college potential because it deals with one particular and previous year. But again, since there are no standards, we can only leave it up to a group of individuals with individual and different ideas as to what it takes to be Mr. Basketball.

Just some observations about criterion for the Mr. Basketball award......

You took that term Mr. Basketball, and emphasized the MR. to say that it was ONLY an individual award.

However you ignored the BASKETBALL part which would lead one to believe that although the award goes to an individual, it should not be ignored how well his team performed and how well he performed on that team!

The best basketball player in the state may very well be a player who plays on a terrible team, gets no press or hype, and therefore doesnt even get mentioned for the award.

It is a given therefore that Mr. Basketball will go to a player who plays on a top team and plays well on that top team.

Also, it seems obvious to me that since the award is only given to seniors that it isnt based on who had the best single season (this includes best senior season), but who had the best career over 4 years.

If it was the case that the award went to the player who had the best single season that year, then the award should technically go to any year player, and not just seniors.

Another observation is that although stats are important, they arent the primary criterion for Mr. Basketball.

If stats were the single criterion then Stuart Miller deserves mentioning, and should probably win the award.

Also, although college potential is important, it isnt the primary criterion for Mr. Basketball. If it was then the #1 college recruit out of the state would win the award every year.

Athletic ability also isnt the primary criterion..... or the player who could jump the highest or run the fastest would win the award each year.

For me the key is that the award is a HIGH SCHOOL award....... and therefore should be given to the player who has had the best high school career.

Now what determines "the best high school career" can vary...... but its obviously a combination of all the above mentioned things.

Also..... I think its important to note that Mr. Basketball doesnt neccessarily have to go to the best basketball player. Just the player who played the best in high school

The award will come down to the following players, Dunaway, Slaughter, Crutcher, and Buckner.

Stuart Miller, Mr. Basketball, that's funny. Good one.

My vote goes to Walt Allen. In My Opinion Walt Allen is what Kentucky High School Basketball is about. He is the definition of a true competitor. I have never met Walt but over the past 2 years I have grown a great appreciation for him. What he does after basketball games, when he brings the two teams together is the most sportsman like think I've ever seen. On the court he is respected and respectable. After the Finals tonight, he recieved a award and it was well deserved. After he accepted the award he walked over to the J-Town bench and shook hands and gave hugs to every player from J-Town. He deserves the award and Kentucky should be honored to give it to such a fine young man like Walt. Either way, Congratulations to Walt Allen on such a successful career at South Laurel. From the NKY fans, we salute you.

No disrespect to Mr. Allen--I think he'll have a solid college career--but as far as Mr.Basketball, IMO he doesn't hold a candle to Slaughter. I have no alliegence to Slaughter, I just think he's the real deal.

For the record where are your alliegences for Wildcat Legend???

I too would like to say that W. Allen is a great competitor, and I enjoyed following his career, I in no way meant to slight him in any way.

My emphasis was only that MR. is singular which means that it's based on an individual's talent.

Agreed. but since that is true, shouldn't the title only come from those who make it to the sweet sixteen?

Very good point.

That's my point, we don't know what exactly the voters look at.

I agree, but once again you are giving your opinion. We don't know.

Athletic ability also isnt the primary criterion..... or the player who could jump the highest or run the fastest would win the award each year.

good guess, but just that.

Do you see my point............. It would be nice if we saw, in print, the criteria used to choose Mr. Basketball.

IMO there is no comparison..... It's slaughter hands down. Walt Allen is a very nice player and its hard to make comparisons between different positions but Allen looked very common at times during the state tourney and the three other games I watched him play, Slaughter is the real deal and has been by far the best player in all of the 7 or 8 games I watched him play this year. Mr. Basketball goes to Slaughter

IMO A.J. Slaugter, when do they announce this?

p.s. Big Zig, just an estimation, how many ice cream cones do you think you and batters box had over the four day's?

Announced on April 14th in Frankfort. Head coaches from each school have the opportunity to vote on Mr/Miss Basketball.

I say Allen wins it

I'll give you 100 to 1 odds that it will go to Slaughter

If Allen would have been a senior last year, then you would probably have a legitimate arguement for Mr. Basketball 2005, It might be safe to say he was a better player last year. I didn't see much improvement

I love to watch him play, because he plays hard, but There are a few others more deserving of Mr. Basketball

AJ Slaughter should win.
