nWo Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 A winter storm warning has just been issued for northern KY. I post more later.
sportsfan41 Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Well it sounds like we should get 2-3 inches and more.
gold sunrise Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Hearing Central Ky could get 2-5. Will see what nWo says.
nWo Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 Here's my prediction from yesterday. As of now I'm staying with the forecast totals. I'll make my final call this evening. 4-6" Owensboro Louisville Jeffersonville Ft Knox Williamstown Falmouth Cincinnati 2-4" Murray Paducah Madisonville Hopkinsville Elizabethtown Nicholasville Frankfort Lexington Paris Flemingsburg Maysville 1-2" Fort Campbell Russellville Bowling Green Campbellsville Berea Richmond Winchester Stanton Mt. Sterling Morehead Ashland Most of Southeast Kentucky is looking at a dusting to around 1" Areas along the I-75 Corridor from the Tennessee state line to around Richmond have a small chance to see some freezing rain or sleet. This area is bordered on the west by Columbia and goes to the northeast to around Somerset and Mt. Vernon.
All In Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Temps are supposed to be in the 40's today and low s tonight above freezing, how is this not going to be all rain? Just wondering
nWo Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 Temps are supposed to be in the 40's today and low s tonight above freezing, how is this not going to be all rain? Just wondering Do you not read all of my posts? I've said there is a chance of freezing rain in some areas of Kentucky. The rain will change over to snow. That is why some parts of the state won't see much snow.
Oldtimebaseball84 Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Always been curious......are the predictions required to be in 2 inch increments? Industry standard.........would find it funny for someone to officially report "we will be getting between 2 and 2 .467 inches " Sorry...I digress......thx NWO
nWo Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 Always been curious......are the predictions required to be in 2 inch increments? Industry standard.........would find it funny for someone to officially report "we will be getting between 2 and 2 .467 inches " Sorry...I digress......thx NWO I don't know about industry standards. But I base mine on percentage chance of snow. For instance. In the area where I predicted 4-6" they are: 1" 90-95% 2" 80-90% It goes from 2"-4" in what I use 4" 50-60% 6" 20-30% Now some areas are have a chance to see 8" but that chance is 10-20%. So you can see it is a good chance that the area I'm talking about will see 4". Now the chance start to diminish on anything above that amount. But there is a chance to get more than 4". Since there is no percentage for 5" I go to the next amount 6". There is a slight chance to see 6" but it is low. Now I can do like some do and give a wide range but I try to be more precise. And I want to emphasize I'm not a registered meteorologist. I just do this as a hobby.
Bengal Maniac Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Looks like some schools in CKY/NKY will be closed if this holds true. This means I will have some grandkiddos. I guess I better get prepared.

I assume Georgetown is in the 2-4 area. son traveling to Toyota for work in the morning and am concerned.
The Professor Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Last year was a bad winter with extreme cold weather and snow. However, we in eastern Kentucky didn't get the amounts of snow that the rest of the state received. Maybe that trend is going to be similar this year. I want to add, though, that in the hills of east Kentucky that one inch of snow with an extended cold weather pattern will still close schools for several days. It doesn't take much accumulations in the hills and hollows to cause major headaches.

I live in Mason/Bracken and it is 45 here right now, we don't get Northern Kentucky weather and we don't get Lexington weather, just wondering what to expect, probably a tornado, lol.
