I think Pam's accomplishment this season are even more impressive when you consider that the Lady Royals went 15-1 against the region and did so without the MVP of the region.

The region POY has not yet been chosen by the coaches. The KABC was for seniors only.

I was asking what her basketball background was. Did she play college ball, high school, assistant coach, head coach somewhere, what? She had a lot of success. It takes a little coaching ability. She proved that.

For this area, I believe the big award is Area Player of the Year. It includes not only the 16th Region but also part of the 15th Region (Lawrence County, Paintsville, Johnson Central, and maybe a couple of others). I think the voting, which also determines the all area team and coach of the year, is done by the applicable coaches. It is not limited to seniors. Coordination of the process is done by Mark Maynard and The Daily Independent.

Pam Euton has helped her girls accomplish something very few teams in this region have ever accomplished, as well as securing a lasting place in Kentucky sports history.

Listening to the games on radio the sideline reporter made it sound like the players coached themselves for the Rose Hill team.

I am not sure that is good journalism.

I don't think the players coached themselves! It takes more than that. She did an outstanding job!

Wow... if these girls coached themselves to a State Runner-Up title, their futures are even brighter than I thought.

 

The majority of these girls are leaders with type A++ personalities. They all make great grades in the classroom, are officers in the clubs they participate in, and are fine young ladies to boot.

 

There are few shrinking violets on this team. I can see how a casual observer witnessing this team close up for the first time might come away with the impression that the girls run the show, but they have no idea what goes on behind the scenes in practive and in the years of preparation leading up to this moment. Some of these girls have played more games at a higher level of competition than many coaches currently active. In this regard, their basketball I.Q.s are off the charts, and they do have a better idea of what's going on on the floor than a lot of coaches might.

 

The fact that Pam Euton was able to hold together such a group of potentially explosive personalities along with the volatile emotions competition brings out in each competitor is testimony to her leadership as a coach.

 

Some coaches excel in Xs and Os, others in being counselors and mentors. Pam Euton is both. :thumb:

Coach Euton and the team took a lot of criticism this year, some was deserved, most was not. In the end though, the team not only met their expectation, but they exceeded anyone's wildest dreams (or nightmare depending on who you cheer for). Therefore, I believe that Coach Euton deserves a lot of credit and praise for the job she did. You can be certain she would have taken a lot of the heat had the team been beaten in the 1st round of the districts.
