I'm not now nor have I ever been in Law Enforcement, but I've testified and presented cases to Grand Juries on several occasions. Every Grand Jury I presented to, the Jurors freely asked me questions.

 

So it's not like they just sit there like a bump on a log waiting for the CA to tell them what to think. I had one grill me pretty hard on a case because he wanted to make sure he understood the process I had followed during my investigation.

 

In fact Grand Juries have more leeway to ask questions and request evidence I think that a regular jury in a trial can. As mentioned Grand Juries are made up of citizens from the community.

Your insight is appreciated. I sat on a criminal jury about 10 years ago. We argued a (relatively minor felony) case for two days before declaring ourselves unable to reach a decision.

 

I don't see how anyone could digest the volume of evidence in this case in just seven hours.

This ain't a Mafia case. Witnesses pretty much were known a few days after the fateful night. Quite a few of the young people had no problem talking to media before they got their grand jury summons. Or did they? Or did the grand jury just watch video interviews of the other three kids in Ramsey car? Another reason why I'd like to see grand jury transcript.

They were assured, as in all grand juries, that their testimony would be secret. It would be unwise for the transcripts to be made public.

Well again they aren't determining guilt or innocence, they are determining if there is enough evidence to warrant moving forward with charges.

Are you sure that witnesses are guaranteed anonymity when they walk into a grand jury room? Do a search of KRS. Seems to be a gray area in light of what the STL prosecutor said.

 

Let me pose this to you. Is this a fair question to ask: How many witnesses to the tragedy, besides Deputy Brockman, appeared in person before the grand jury? No names. Just a number.

^ just look at the situation there right after. You are telling me that if the officer is cleared and even one witness was not 100% for the officer that that witness would not fear for his life? All you have to do is look at the garbage that happened lit there. And it's why they waited a while before they released the officers name, so he and his family could move the heck away from there.

We already know the names of the three passengers of the car Samantha Ramsey was driving. In addition, other witnesses to the tragedy -- other field party participants -- also were quoted by name in stories. So what's to keep secret?

So basically pick and choose which cases the witnesses info is released? Wow.

I know. This crazy concept that the public has a right to know is a bunch of baloney. Can't have a bunch of "ordinary people" second-guessing elected officials. Next thing you know, they'll start criticizing the president of the United States.

 

Like I said, write your congressman instead of crying about it on a sports site. The entire judicial system should change cause 2toplace wants to know the transcripts of ONE grand jury hearing. I'm curious how many other grand jury's you've gotten this upset over prior to this? I'll guess somewhere between slim and none.
