November 7, 201411 yr Forgive me if this is redundant. I couldn't find anything when I searched. But I feel like it's been discussed before. I was trying not to think about work tonight on the way home, so this is what I was thinking of. So, with that said, what are some of your "iconic intros", introductions of songs that you instantly know the song without even hearing a word. Or intros that strike a chord with you (pun intended)? For instance, some intros I play back over and over just because they are SO darned good? 5 of mine are: "I Need a Lover"-John Mellencamp "Bittersweet Symphony"-The Verve "Mysterious Ways"-U2 "Elevation"-U2 "Enter Sandman"-Metallica Good thread and good list. Off the top of my head, the bolded doesn't suck.
November 7, 201411 yr So many great posts and great songs. Hard for me to add much to what has already been listed. But, I'll try. Baba O Riley is my all time favorite intro. Really don't like the song much though. For 80's music fans, Purple Rain and My Hometown are pretty good. Bon Jovi had some nice intros as well, but I really like the intro to "Lay Your Hands on Me." Best 80's intro for me is likely U2's, "Where the Streets have no Name." Love Pearl Jam's intro to, "Yellow Ledbetter." Huge fan of Led Zepplin's, "Immigrant Song," intro.
