There's a lot of strange movies out there, but when it comes down to flat out bizarre, what movie(s) makes your list?

 

For me, I've never seen anything more bizarre than Forbidden Zone.

 

 

 

 

 

Another bizarre and weird movie is the 1932 film Freaks.

Wow...have you ever opened up a can of worms with this one.

 

Disclaimer: Because I've seen some of the following movies does not ensure that they're my cuf of tea. Some I can tolerate to a degree, and some I've no interest in ever seeing again.

 

Director Harmony Korine is known for his twisted, disturbing, and bizarre movies. They're hard to watch and definitely more than once, if that much.

 

A few of his most notable films are "Kids", "Gummo", and "Julien Donkey-Boy".

 

According to Wiki his film Trash Humpers won main prize at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2009. I've not seen it.

 

Before being aware of who he was, by chance I've seen "Kids", and "Julien Donkey-Boy" which were both disturbing to say the least. I'd say "JD-Boy" rates up there big time with being one of the most bizarre movies I've ever seen.

 

Screen International has this to say about Harmony Korine:

 

"Every generation conjures up its own envelope-pushing film-maker, Godard, Herzog, Fellini, Jarman, or Cassavetes - whose very restless originality manages to both infuriate and intoxicate those willing to sit through their films. The same might be said about Harmony Korine".

John Waters is another unconventional film-maker that personally I don't much care for, but because of various weird movies nights where I was made to sit through them years ago, I've taken in more than I've cared to.

 

His most mainstream movie would've been "Hairspray", and perhaps "Pecker". The only ones that I found myself unexpectedly cracking up to were "Female Troubles" and "Polyester" simply for their outrageousness.

 

One of his most outrageous is the cult movie "Pink Flamingos" which was too raw and disgusting for me to ever claim interest in.

 

One of the most unusual and unconventional movies I've ever seen, but still found myself intrigued by was "Twin Falls Idaho" where siamese twin virgin brothers go to the big city to celebrate their 25th birthday by renting a hooker. One brother is the weaker and sicker brother, while the healthier brother ends up falling in love with the hooker.

 

"I Love You Alice B. Toklas" from 1968 starring Peter Sellers falls into the "bizarre" camp.

"Dynamite Chicken" starring Richard Pryor in 1971 was a nutty slice of bizarre.

 

From the makers of "South Park", Trey Parker & Matt Stone comes an outrageous 1997 goofy bizarre ridiculous juvenile movie entitled "Orgazmo" The trailer reminds me that I never care to experience again.

 

Not bizarre and disturbing, or twisted exactly, but 1998 unconventional Japanese film "After Life" was a pleasant surprise in its sentiment and originality. Not your everyday movie and probably not for everyone.

 

Probably not for everyone, but 1971 cult favorite "Harold and Maude" is unconventional, but can be intriguing to some, me included. Cat Stevens provided the music.

 

"A Clockwork Orange" was a strange movie. I haven't seen it in years but I remember asking myself why would anyone pay money to watch this movie.

And if I'm not mistaken it was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Evidently the critics loved it.

I remember Brimestone and Treacle was out there growing up.

Leaving out Japanese movies, I'd say Gummo.

 

I wouldn't really know where to begin if I included Asian films. I guess I would use "Ichi the Killer" as the starting point, but it only gets worse from there.
