I was curious on who everyone thinks should start at running back for the Bengals. The Bengals running game has had some success, but not consistent as it should be. Which is why I wanted to see what other people thought.

I love Giovani Bernard, however at this point I think the offense would be better with Hill being the primary running back. The line is not getting that big of a push, and that is why Hill I think would be better because he can create a yard or two even if there is no hole. Not to mention he catches the ball well too. I think it may be better to go back to using Bernard like last year on third downs, and other parts of the game.

He laid a big freakin egg on the goal line yesterday prior to the sneak. Pass on Hill. I'd take Gio every day of the week.

I think they should play Bernard every down and give him 30 carries and 10 passes.

Of course, he's on my fantasy team too.

I think the work should be evenly divided.

He asked who should start. So who should start?

Right now Gio should start. Hill is still a rookie and is developing really well. he is about where he should be in that area. Gio is just one play, anytime from breaking a big one. Those guys are hard to find. He takes a linebackers attention every play. That leaves the middle of the fiels more vulnerable. My concern with him is his durability. He is just not a big guy and it is a long season and the last two games he has taken some huge pops. With Hill in the game, defenses can play straight up. Although he is better between the tackles and catches the ball well, he is not Gio in the open field and who can make multiple tacklers miss. I was super impressed with him running down the linebacker after the Dalton left handed fumble, pass, lateral, whatever he was trying to do. Hill made up 20 yards to ten from the runner. He has speed.

In the next year or so, I believe Hill will move into the starters role if he keeps developing.

In two plays he got them from the five to the half yard line eveb though the ravens were crowding the box. On third down the big ngtata (sp.) Was hitting him as soon as he got the ball. He honestly did a nice job spinning forward just to get back to a little more than a yard away or else it would have been a two yard loss.

Gio would have made him miss.

Thats the thing I dont think the Bengals are using him to where teams do have to account for him. They do a lot of power plays to him some reason. You have even stated the overall run game hasnt been good. Yes he can break the big one. However if our line doesnt give him a chance to get to the second level then it doesnt matter. Hill on the other hand can break one too, but also can create yards if nothing is there.

Even if Hill doesnt start I do think they should use him more than they have. As guru said it needs to get to where its at least split evenly.

I would still start Gio but it really would be more RB by committee than a starter and a back up.

Agreed.

I am not sure AP in his hey day would get many more with our run blocking. If a runner cannot get to the second level, he isn't going to be consistent. The run game is really the OL and we all know that. The second level yards is what separates the good backs from the great ones.

It appears to me the Colts and Ravens were in his jock all game, that is accounting for him.

It doesn't seem that Gio is being used as much in the passing game as last year.

I believe you are correct. I think it is all Hue and Marvin's tenacity to run the ball. They believe and rightly so that will get the Bengals to the Super Bowl with AD at QB. In reality, besides the Colts, the offense has been pretty good. The defense isn't upper tier yet and that is the biggest issue.

Without Green, Eifert or really any other receiving threats its not hard to account for him. Him being out there sure didn't open anything up against the Colts. Now I can buy it if the Bengals had all their other weapons, that having him just makes them that much more dangerous. It also seemed like we seen more big plays from him last year in the role they had for him.

Either way I would like to see them get to more of a equal amount for both. Honestly I would love to see them both in the game at the same time. Because with Bernard you can also split him out into the slot.
