October 25, 201411 yr Author Congrats! To where are you moving? Peaks Mill Rd. We're excited about the move.
October 25, 201411 yr Peaks Mill Rd. We're excited about the move. Beautiful. It's pretty hilly over there (we live in Farmdale), is your land pretty flat?
October 25, 201411 yr Author Beautiful. It's pretty hilly over there (we live in Farmdale), is your land pretty flat? Actually it is extremely flat. And about 1 mile from Elkhorn Creek. Look out Smallies.
October 26, 201411 yr Do you have a $ amount in mind? Zero turn popularity has exploded in the last few years which has made even used tough to get at a good price. I would monitor craigslist, I see them on there quite a bit, especially this time of year. You may also talk to local lawn care guys to see if they know of any coming up for sale.
October 26, 201411 yr Make sure the land you are going to mow is pretty smooth. Even with upgraded suspension seats you will get a very rough ride if the land is not smooth. You said the land is flat, that is good, rider zeroturns do not handle hills very good. Also, stick with a name brand like Exmark or John Deere. Spend a little extra money on a good machine now and it will save you money and headaches later.

I'm wanting to stay under $4,000 if I can. My son has been searchin craigslist a lot and keepin a list. I have talked to a couple of lawn care guys in our our area too. Thanks for the input woodsrider.

October 26, 201411 yr $4000 you should be able to get a pretty decent one...John Deere has several models new for $4K and under. JohnDeere Z425 with 54-in. Deck Zero-Turn Mower You can probably get more bang for your buck going to a retail dealer that takes commercial trade ins...if they have went over the trade in and will give some warranty with it you can probably find a used commercial one for that price range.

Thanks for the input woodsrider. No problem. I'm far from an expert but have a customer that manufacturers transmissions for mowers (one of their factories is in KY). They can't build zero turns fast enough.
October 27, 201411 yr I did see that Hustler is making some lower cost residential mowers now. They have a 54" that is right around you range and a 52" that is about $1000 under it. I don't know much about these but know that Hustler's higher end mowers are hard to beat.
October 27, 201411 yr Go commercial, used. It will be worth it in the long run. Find a commercial dealer and talk to them.
October 27, 201411 yr Unless you can get a really good deal on a commercial model I would disagree. It's not worth the extra money for residential use.
