Good luck to NDA.

Final from Union

Congrats to NDA.

(So happy that our guy Yellow Card is continuing to be at the pulse of all things soccer!)

Disappointing.

Was there really any doubt NDA would win? They are on another level. I know it's hard for people to accept but it's true. I'm not an NDA fan at all but there are some things people have to realize. I know once and a while a team will beat them around here but it doesn't happen often.

Congrats to NDA... they were stronger and the better team. First half Highlands had well organized defense and while they had only minimal attacks it was tied 0-0 at halftime and it looked like it might be a good strategy to continue going into the second half... longer the score remained tied second half, the more opportunities (theoretically) would open up for Highlands to counter.

It looked like Highlands took a different approach though and right out of the gate they looked to get more numbers forward. The 0-0 scoreline lasted about 6 minutes into the second half as NDA (Arnzen?) scored on a free header off a corner. It's possible that one or both of the two girls Highlands had on the posts would have been more helpful above the six-yard box in a mixed zonal defending approach on the corners, but maybe that's a thought for next year at this point.

Not too much time passed before NDA found a player (Sherrard?) wide open at the top of the 18 who cleanly slotted the ball to the corner... not much the keeper could do. At that point it looked like game over and when NDA got their third it was done and dusted.

Good luck to NDA going forward!

Interesting that you mention Arnzen and Sherrard. It is my understanding that the HHS kids were told that these girls were "over-rated" It is one thing to try and talk your team up and another to try and downplay the skill level of your opponent. Anyone with a vast knowledge of soccer knows that Mandy Arnzen is a player that you need to stop if you want to win the game. She owned the middle of the field last night and to not have her tightly marked on a corner is just plain unacceptable.

Well said. Their style of play is excellent, play simple, ball possession soccer. It takes a good 8-9 technically skilled players on the field to play this style, and NDA year in and year out is able to roster these type of players, it is what separates them from the rest…except for Sacred Heart, very similar styles.

Only question remaining for Highlands this year is which will come first: resignation or termination?

Good work! Way to take this thread to some place other than the game that was played last night. What does it matter to you anyway? Your Camels are still playing which is great for them. Worry about them instead of what the HHS girls coach is going to do.

Gameplayedright hit the nail on the head. Most teams in Kentucky, you take away their best scorer, or two at the most and you can pretty much shut them down. With Notre Dame it is pick you poison. If you decide to shadow one or two girls, their passing and spacing is so sound that it leaves other girls wide open for shots on goals. Also, unlike most teams, they have strong legs that can finish and don't have to be within 10 yards of the goal. They can sit around the 18 yard line or further out and launch shots on goal. They are a strong favorite to make another deep run in the tourney, but you never know what can happen. Its why they play the game.

They are also very physical, and I mean that in a good way, and that comes from playing CLUB soccer at a high level. A lot of soccer is about positioning your body in such a way that you can receive a pass and then be able to attack your opponent and they do that extremely well, especially in the midfield.

So should it be talked about in its own thread?
