False.

Explain? This has been all over the radio today and the website I posted it from isn't some shotty website.

Assuming the new policies survive the legal appeals process, Patterson said UT won’t have problems paying the extra $6 million to its players. That money will break down to about $10,000 for each player. The money will cover college expenses that aren’t covered by a traditional full scholarship and give each player $5,000 in compensation for the university’s use of his image.

$6 mil a year is chump change.

There are no plans to start paying any athletes right now. This is a possible scenario that hinges on other things. Half of the 10K would be put into a trust as well if this would come to fruition. I do think a payment model is coming with autonomy approval in January, but right now it's just discussion.

Texas’ AD said UT will budget $6 million/year to fund full cost-of-attendance scholarships and fund the $5,000/year trust under O’Bannon.

So is the Texas AD lying, or misinformed?

This will be the down fall of college athletics. Smaller schools will not be able to compete with this type of money. So the WKU's, Ball State's, UAB's of the world will be pushed to a lower division of football. The Power 5 conference will own everything. Not sure how schools Like UK and UL can compete.

UK and UL could afford $6 million a year.

UL is already working on raising the money to pay athletes

I agree with a money to the athletes to use their likeness. That money would go into an account and allowance paid out monthly. I also would be for a % amount for all merchandise sold. Meaning someone buys your jersey and you get X % from that sale. That money goes into a trust and you get it after you graduate.

Nah, just the Academic Center.
