Comments?

South Warren moves above Belfry even though Belfry beats the #10 team by 2 TD's with a M.A.S.H. unit roster on the road?

Interesting.

South Warren is undefeated, correct? Belfry lost to 1A Pikeville, who is a great team. But I don't think Belfry should be #1 in 3A solely because of that loss when there are other undefeated teams still left. However, I do believe that if Belfry was going to fall from #1 it should have been the week after the Pikeville game, doing it now and not then doesn't make much sense to me.

That's what surprises me. It's not like South Warren had a statement win themselves. They beat a very weak 2-6 Monroe County team.

Belfry did lose to Pikeville... and were not pretty against Lawrence County... but you can argue Belfry has played 5 teams better than the toughest team South Warren has faced... Belfry has went 4-1 in those games. Belfry also currently boast wins over the #10 3A team on the road, the #6 5A team on the road, and last weeks #11 team in 6A. South Warren has no wins against teams ranked in the Top 10 in their respective classes.

There is no doubt in my mind that Belfry would be unblemished against South Warren's schedule.

Yeah, why now?

Their lackluster win over Lawrence County, a team that was overrated, in my opinion, would be a start. Simply put, Belfry should have had a running clock in the second quarter against Lawrence County. 1A Pikeville Beat Belfry, then they struggled with a team 1A Raceland beat 47-14.

If Belfry is number one in 3A, then there are about 6 1A teams that would win the State Championship in 3A right now.

in 3A right now.

Maybe Belfry did not dominate Lawrence the way they should have (they have several key players with minor injuries that set out) but you are basing all this on comparing scores which can be misleading to say the least.

Based on this logic Russell is better than Raceland since Raceland lost to Ashland 41-35 and Russell beat Ashland 29-27. Comparing scores is fun but in no way a standard for rankings. Belfry is still the best team in AAA IMO. South Warren has beaten a lot of average teams but I would argue no team on their schedule is as good as Henry Clay or Southwestern. (I don't know anything about the out of state teams Belfry beat).

A healthy Belfry teams puts a running clock on Lawrence County.

Comparing scores, especially in a game Belfry gift wrapped 3 TD's for LC, never is the way to go.

I will say the Belfry team on the field against Lawrence Friday is not the best team in 3A. If rankings are meant to be a snapshot of a one week window then no doubt they are not #1. If you think that is the Belfry team you will see in November when they get everyone back you are sorely mistaken.

Fair enough.

I think rankings should be a one week window in to where teams are at in that specific time period.

BGP's rankings are not a one week window based solely on this week's performances. They also are not an attempt to predict who will be the best at season's end.

BGP's rankings are an attempt to rank the teams RIGHT NOW, at current strength, current injuries, etc.

Given that info, if Belfry and South Warren would play each other THIS WEEK, who would win? I would have no problem picking SW in that scenario.

I think rankings should be a one week window in to where teams are at in that specific time period.
Right. Not just last Friday night's results, but a current assessment of strength. Ideally it is saying the #1 team would beat the #2-10 teams, the #2 team would be the #3-10 teams, etc.

Gallia Academy is not very strong. They are 4-4 but their wins have been against pretty weak competition.

CAK is a Top 10 3A team in TN who has played a murderer's row schedule. Using Calpreps they have CAK at #6 in 3A. Their losses have came to Knoxville Catholic (#1 in their Class, #8 overall in TN), Alcoa (#2 in their class, #19 in TN overall), Webb (#1 in their class, #29 in TN overall), and Belfry (#1 in their class, #15 in KY overall).
