I don't understand why the MLB waits nearly 7 days to start the WS.

 

If they started earlier they would have to span 2 weekends, which means competing with NCAA and NFL football two weekends. We all know they can't do that.

It's just too long to wait. Any buzz they had about this series is virtually gone. Heck I nearly forgot about it.

1995 (introduced in 1994 but the strike cancelled the playoffs). The Marlins in 1997 were the first WC to win the WS. The 2002 WS was the first with two wildcard teams, the Angels and Giants.

Have some kind of flex option in place to get things going in the event both series end early. Just seems like such a long time to wait for a sport that needs to keep as much momentum as possible. At no point in the year do you have any kind of break like this. I don't see why you would for the WS either. It might not make a huge difference because these teams are going to struggle to draw an audience either way.

NBA and MLB have to set their schedules a year or more in advance. It boils down to the TV schedule and that's not going to change. Just something that's part of having series end early.

While I think this will be a fun WS I also think it will be one of the least watched WS.

I agree....no star power. Not that that is the end all and be all for an interesting Series, but how many players might ever be considered for the Hall of Fame or even MVP? Granted, it is early to judge some of the younger guys, but of those who have been around for a while, who you got? Posey, Peavy, Hudson, Bumgarner, Pence, Shields......? The best bet would be Posey, I think, as of October, 2014.

So, what will keep your interest? With all the talk of no one watching, it sounds like most of us will be watching. At what stage do you give up and switch the channel?

 

I'm not a fan of the Giants, actually, I don't care about them one way or the other. So the intrigue of them being there for the 3rd time in the last five years means nothing to me. I have enjoyed watching the Royals, but I think I have remained interested because of the streak and how they win games. Well, if Bumgarner does what he has done in game one in his last two game 1 WS starts, 0 runs in 15 innings, and the Royals lose, then I am done as well. The mystique of the "Magical Mystery Tour" will be over, and I probably will be too.

This is why I hate the college football championship games at the beginning of January. Quality of play suffers in the 1st half.

They manage to figure it out for the wildcard game.

 

That's not the WS. Much larger production for the players and their families.

 

I always wondered why there was a week off before the Super Bowl. The only reason is to allow the players and coaches a week to figure out travel arrangements for family, then a week of preparation.
