Never bought into the Janis Joplin hype. She annoyed me.

Dylan obviously showed brilliance in his song writing, but his vocals grew more terrible with each passing year.

Brian Johnson nailed a tough rock gravel sound early on, but eventually started sounding like someone's grandma trying badly her hand at Rock n' Roll singing.

I won't knock Lou Gramm because his decline was a result of illness, but OMG it was painful to witness him going from a great rock singer to see him struggling. I think he's recovered some and has regained his voice a bit, but it'll obviously never be again what it was.

 

Come to think of it Lawnboy, I saw Foreigner not two, but three times, the last being (Riverbend) when Lou started to struggle and I was unaware while listening what the reason was.

I came to the thread assuming I would see Axl Rose fairly quickly and it did not disappoint. I think it worked for their brand of music, but yeah, he can't sing very well.

Let's be honest here. The quality of Gramm's output declined long before 1997. He started sucking a good decade+ before his illness.

Before I ponder my "Worst" list, I'll echo my distaste here for Axl Rose.

 

Although I did initially like "Welcome To The Jungle" when it first came out, and think that Slash is a good guitarist, Axl very quickly wore on my nerves.

 

I think it was with "Don't Cry" and how he sustained the long annoying note at the end is when the coffin lid shut for me.

 

Him murdering "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" didn't help me regain any faith either.

 

I think there also might be another tune where he sustained a similar annoying note, but don't recall what it is, but all in all he was just downright painful to listen to.

 

He definitely tops my "Top 5 Worst" list.

 

I need a little more time to ponder 2 thru 5.

Honesty time for a minute, RM. Bob Dylan's voice has always been horrible, even before the motorcycle accident that is incorrectly blamed for his terrible delivery. It took me 27 years before I could appreciate Dylan.

 

Tom Waits, well, I'm still trying to get used to his voice. Great songwriter, terrible singer.
