Cooper 42 Scott 7

I know everyone wants to see them pass more, but honestly, this team is built to run the football. That's where their talent lies, so they go with what they do best, and try to do it really well.

And there lies the problem. They built the team to run. As one very good former Scott player said last night at the game, "Coach Woolley wants to make all these guys RB's".

The offense might not be conventional, but it fits the talent and personnel they have. This team (and last years team) lack an outside threat and true receivers that can get separation.

See above! The reason this team lacks receivers is because they don't attempt to develop receivers. But I do want to add this, you keep saying Scott lacks talent at the WR position, yet last year they had a player who wasn't talented enough (your words) to play WR at the high school level who now is currently playing WR at the college level.

Does the offense limit the team??? Sure. It makes it tough to play from behind. They need to score early, and play good defense. 3rd and long is tough. But really that's true about almost every high school football team.

And this is why a one dimensional middle school style offense will not work in the bigger school divisions.

That player (if it's who I think you're referring to), also happened to be their best running back. While he could have played wide, and obviously was more than good enough, I think it was a better decision to be able to get him the 15-20 times a game as an RB, than 5-7 times as a receiver. And in terms of this year, I think London and Pleasant are better suited as backs than receivers. But hey, it's just my opinion, and everybody has one of those ;-). It's easy to second guess and play armchair QB. Sure there are some things I'd do differently. But that coaching staff knows that team better than anybody and know their strengths and weaknesses. I'll support them in their decisions. And again, I don't think it's a system problem. It's an execution problem. With the mistakes they made last night (penalties, bad snaps, fumbles etc), it doesn't matter what you run. As long as they keep moving forward, and the program remains consistent (the talent is always going to cycle at Scott, like it does at many public schools), then this staff deserves the community's support.

Keep your head up boys.....work hard and stay focused in practices . Prepare hard for every game and dont take any team lightly. This is only the beginning of district play.stay serious and goal minded. Be a team and learn from your mistakes and come back stronger. Move forward. Go Eagles !!!

This one dimensional style has great success in California, in fact I think it still holds the national record for most points scored in a season. Just Google Don Markham double wing and you will see how much success this offense actually has all over the country, and another name big in the double wing offense is Hugh Wyatt.

That's because California football is horrible ;)

It was impressive how Cooper didn't let last week's game get into their heads. Shake it off and move on to district. I think that says a lot about them and will serve them well through district and into the playoffs.
What have the jags done against a quality team? Offense is nonexistent against 3 other local teams!

Many folks picked the undefeated Scott who has been putting 40+ points a game up in teams until they faced Cooper. I understand you aren't a fan of Cooper after putting down their AD after they beat Your Ryle team, but Coopers D hasn't given up more than 7 pts in a game besides SK this season.

You say their offense is non existent against 3 teams thus far. Seeing how SK was the only game their offense was non existent so far is like to know what games you are talking about

Ryle was the first game of the year with a brand new offense full of first time starters (only 2 returning starters) yet they still scored double digits against Ryle and every other game this far except SK they have scored over 30 points.

You may want to re think your post.

Not to be picky HB but we were 7-17 agasint the Camels. With that said. I'm guessing a Ryle team that nearly and maybe even should have beaten SK was defeated by the Jags in our opening game isn't a quality team. Don't know but I do know the Jags are 2-2 against 6a teams and in the Camel loss led them into the third quarter. Didn't win that one but the game was in doubt up until the end.

Again against a good defense on local teams 0 offense, SK,CC, or against Ryle. Everyone knows Ryle has no offense. All I'm saying . Like it or not! 0 offense....

I'm confused as to what your issue with Cooper is? The only team they haven't competed with is SK. The offense moved the ball against Campbell, they just didn't get it in the endzone. It's not like the offense is non-existent.

Cooper's offense is pretty good. They do a really good job with the short, timing, passing game. Quick drops, and the QB gets rid of the ball quickly, and it's really hard to defend. Armstrong is a smallish, but explosive back, and hard running back. SK overwhelmed them with size, but they will be able to put points up on most teams.

Move the ball up and down the field, stats look great, but if the end result isnt Points?

Still missing your point. Against really good defenses there will be very few teams that will score a lot or move the ball a lot. Look at your Ryle Raiders who Cooper dominated between the 20's and it showed on the score board.

Not sure what your issue is with Cooper.

???

Here are Cooper's stats for the season so far.

125 yards passing per game

143 yards rushing per game

18 TD's ( 3.6 TD's a game)

Sorry, just not seeing what your point is. I think many teams would love to have an offense that according to you is non existent if they can avg those numbers a game.

Maxpreps has a really cool thing they do for team stats, they have the team stats compared to the Nations avg stats. Cooper is above average in Receiving yards per game, TD's per game, on defense they have more than double the avg sacks and int's. So according to all the other high school teams in the country their offense is above average and so is their defense. Sorry to burst your bubble.
