Essential Classic Rock Albums

Featured Replies

So a good friend of mine was talking with me about music last night. About 3 years ago he lost his job, and while he was out of work, he had to part ways with the vast majority of his vinyl collection in order to make ends meet. He's been back at work for a good while now, and last night he was saying he wanted to re-purchase a back-catalog of classic rock vitals.

I fired I'd pose the question on here. What are some of your classic rock "must have" albums?

My list is fairly long as well. I'll share it after some other folks have given their thoughts.

Wow, I got a bunch on my list

AC/DC "Back in Black"

Rolling Stones "Sticky Fingers" and "Exile on Main Street"

Led Zeppelin 3 and 4

Kiss "Alive"

The Allman Brothers "Live at the Fillmore"

The Who "Who's Next", "Quadrophenia"

Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon"

Thin Lizzy "Jailbreak"

James Taylor "Greatest Hits"

I could go on for days.....

Bruce Springsteen Born to Run

Beatles Abbey Road, Rubber Soul

Eagles Long Run, Hotel California

Elton John Greatest Hits Vol 1

Led Zepplin (any and all of their albums)

Just for starters

Oh yea, almost forgot

Meat Loaf Bat out of Hell

mcpapa, next time you give the thread a look, can you switch this into the correct forum?

:bag:

EDIT: Nevermind. Looks like somebody already took care of it.

2. Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

3. Led Zeppelin Untitled

Beyond what's been mentioned I'd add Queen

Anything Eagles or Kiss.

Be careful there. Folks might go picking up "Music From The Elder" or "Unmasked" thinking they're going to hear "Detroit Rock City."

And, of course, we all know my thoughts on Don Henley's band.

My ten minute list:

Steely Dan – Aja

Wilco – Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

The Decemberists – The King is Dead

Led Zeppelin – Physical Graffiti

Stevie Wonder – Songs in the Key of Life

Yes – 90125

REM – Document

Eagles – Hotel California

Neil Young – After the Gold Rush

The Black Keys – Brothers

Avett Brothers – I and Love and You

Buckingham Nicks – self titled

Crosby, Stills & Nash – CSN

Fleetwood Mac – Rumours

Jackson Browne – Running on Empty

Van Halen – VH 1

Tom Petty – Damn the Torpedoes

Steve Winwood – Back in the High Life

U2 – Joshua Tree

The Cars – self titled

Billy Squier – Don’t Say No

Boston – self titled

Phil Collins – Face Value

Weezer – Blue album

Jimmy Buffett – A1A

Jack White – Blunderbuss

Genesis – self titled

Alabama Shakes – Boys & Girls

Chicago Transit Authority – Chicago I

Bruce Springsteen – Born to Run

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication

Nivrana – Nevermind

Run-D.M.C. – King of Rock

Creedence – Willy & The Poor Boys
