UKCATSFAN Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Where will O.J. Mayo end up? Do you think he will go to college or a developmental league? He has to go somewhere for at least one year before he can enter the NBA Draft. If collge, what school? I know he still has some ties around here, anybody have any "inside" information? Heard any "Rumors"?
Jim Schue Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 When I spoke to him, he said that NBDL was not an option.
UKCATSFAN Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 When I spoke to him, he said that NBDL was not an option. Did he say any thing else? College? I realize he probaly wouldn't say a specific scholl but maybe a few different choices he may be thinking about. Like a uh uh, I don't know, maybe uh, say Kentucky !!!!! :thumb:
WVA Boy Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Can he prep a year and be eligible for the pros or does he definitely have to spend a year in college?? How about Europe for some $$$$$$$$ and the overseas experience? Wouldn't think UK would be an option with that many guards still in the stable and because of the style of play!

Like a uh uh, I don't know, maybe uh, say Kentucky !!!!! :thumb: He mentioned UK, but that was mostly because we were in Frankfort, with the Herald Leader and Lex TV stations there. Not saying he's ruling them out, because I have no idea what's in the kid's head, but it seems to me he's playing all the options. Mostly he seems to be waiting to see where Huggs goes.
UKCATSFAN Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 I don't think he HAS to go to college but I'd like to see him there for at least a year. Of course I'd like him @ UK but I doubt it goes there. It's just wishful thinking. Hey, you never know though. It could happen. Rondo, Morris, and Crawford would be seniors and he could look at UK and think it's a good place for 1 year to go to and try for a national championship. Walker could join him!!!! Think about this: Marshall hires Huggins, Mayo and Walker both sign with Marshall. Some highly scouted recruits hear about the signing and a couple sign with Marshall also. Marshall becomes instant NCAA Championship contenders. You never know...............
Jim Schue Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I'll bet you he doesn't end up with Huggins. Enlighten us as to why, when all conventional wisdom says otherwise.

He should go to a major basketball conference for the exposure.
FairFan Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I'll bet you he doesn't end up with Huggins. I think he will, thats why he is not saying anything. I think he really wants to play for him.

westsider Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I don't know that Mayo will play college basketball. I think he'll go to a prep school or take the Globetrotters option that's been mentioned. If Mayo goes to a college program, there is a chance that he plays below expectations and his stock drops among the NBA scouts. Plus, there is the matter of finding a college program that will tolerate the entourage and all that entails. Mayo's stock is much less likely to drop at a prep school ... there are several of the less reputable ones that, I'm sure, will tolerate the accompanying circus. The same holds true for the Globetrotters, although that is a different situation altogether.

I'm sure ANY college in the nation would TOLERATE Mayo coming to their program. I don't think that would be an issue at all. I'm sure every school knows he'll be around for only 1 year. He would have his choice of ANY school in the country, especially if it's a 2-for-1 special with Walker.
