I forgot to mention NewCath's Nate Enslen, this kid plays his "donkey" off. Plays bigger than his size, and had some really nice returns on kickoffs and his desire, and gain, of yards after the catch was outstanding. :ylsuper::ylsuper::ylsuper::ylsuper:

Another impressive win for Dixie!

NCC needs to toughen up. Players asking off the field, players pulling themselves out of practice all week and how that happens is incredible to me. Players arguing on the sidelines. Too much selfish crap going on. District play begins, no more excuses on either side of the ball.

Not much to report on this one, you can look at the last three game summaries and they would work for this one.

 

I think Breds QB, Patrick Henschen, is improving week to week. However, he was under pressure way too much today. Dixie must have had at least 8 to 10 sacks. That being said, is the NewCath offensive line that bad, or are they just going up against bigger, faster, and better defensive units? :idunno:

 

Dixie QB, Drew Moore, had a field day running the ball. He did a great job of faking the hand-off and running for BIG gains. :ylsuper: His receivers made some UNBELIEVABLE catches, and more times than not they were wide open. The NewCath pass defense is absolutely AWFUL, and IMO, as been for the past few years.

 

Jake Smith did have some very nice runs in this game, and did a great job in making the defense miss him on a few occasions. :thumb:

 

Breds DL Maleek Lawrence had some hellacious hits, and is one of the bright spots on this team. DL Kobe Tallon with another solid job as well. :up:

 

Breds punter, Erik Anderson, had another nice job kicking with two being downed at the 1 yard line. Would really like to know his avg. per punt, it's got to be over 40 yards. :ylsuper:

 

Breds finally end the "suicidal" portion of the schedule and return to 2A district action next week in Erlanger against the (4-0) Lloyd Juggernauts. Now we get to see if the 5A/6A gauntlet paid off.

 

The BREDS offensive line is Horrible, especially the right side. I've been saying it since game one, changes on offensive the line need to be made!! They have got to either move some guys around or better yet, find some guys, on the sideline, who want to play and put them in. Way too many players acting like they don't want to be there. A few just standing around watching the QB get hit, time and time and time again. Henschen is getting better every week, and still needs to get rid of the ball a little quicker, but dang, the line hass got to block and give him some time to throw the ball. I mean, come on, NO BLOCKING. No way NCC makes it back to Bowling Green with the line they have now.

So it sounds like the offensive line should have limited Dixie to less than 34 points?

 

You guys do realize these are high school kids that read these threads and saying they are horrible is irresponsible IMO. Think of your kid being part of that line before you type behind your screen name. Just sayin

 

High School sports is not about you "has beens" or fans that never stepped foot on the field or if you did put a uniform on it was to keep you warm on the sidelines. It's about the kids who bust their butts in practice and try their best on Friday night. Or the coaches who devote their time away from their families to shape these young men. Stay positive and encourage these boys dont continue to bash them.

Friday and Saturday then read such crap about how they played. NCC has had a rugged schedule and now starts District 2A play this week. I wish them luck and please if you want to be negative go somewhere else or be positive to get these young men back on the right track. JD

I expected Dixie to roll easily. The score may suggest that but I thought NewCath was a lot tougher than expected. I think they out hit Dixie especially on special teams. Number 42 was destroying people. I think they played much tougher than Beechwood. QB will be really good in district play. Dixie better work on special teams....it will cost them in a close district game.

I dont think its a matter of how bad NCC right side of the line is. Dixie is just very big and strong on the D-line. NT 6'4 280 DE 6'3 235, muti others also play 6'5 230..6'0 250.. Just ask beachwood...

When Dixie placed johnson and machlit on the same side, chaos ensued. If you double one and leave the other to beat his man one on one. Well that's why the QB had little time to think.

It does not look great on paper.

The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds football team fell to 0-4 on the year with a 34-13 loss to the 3-1 Dixie Heights Colonels on Saturday at Newport Stadium. But they went 0-4 against a brutal stretch of competition from Classes 5A and 6A last year and still finished Class 2A state runner-up.

The Colonels had their way on both the offensive and defensive fronts. The Colonel defense sacked the Thoroughbred quarterbacks 10 times.

The Thoroughbreds kept things closer pouncing on 4-of-6 Colonel fumbles. Peyton Davis, Nate Enslen, Spencer Pangallo and Ben Barbara recovered Dixie Heights fumbles for NewCath.

NewCath junior defensive lineman Maleek Lawrence recorded several punishing hits on the Colonel running backs throughout the day. That led to some tackles for a loss.

The Colonel offensive line paved the way for senior quarterback Drew Moore. He burned the Thoroughbreds a lot keeping the ball on read options. He rushed for 178 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns. He also passed for the same amount completed 10-of-13 attempts to go with a touchdown.

Cameron Barrett had 12 carries for 35 yards and two touchdowns for the Colonels. Teammate Luke Zajac had 10 carries for 67 yards.

Seth Caple led the Colonels with two catches for 69 yards. Teammate Gunter Faeth added two catches for 51 yards and a touchdown.

Dixie Heights outgained NewCath, 453-159 in total offense. The Colonels also out had 13 first downs to eight for the Thoroughbreds.

NewCath quarterback Patrick Henschen showed more signs of good things at quarterback. He completed 11-of-20 passes for 127 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Enslen had four catches for 67 yards and a touchdown. Teammate Brandon Gray followed with two catches for 33 yards.

The Thoroughbreds did rush for 32 net yards on 30 carries despite the sacks. Jacob Smith had 13 carries for 57 yards.

Dixie Heights led just 14-0 at halftime. The Colonels scored on their first possession. On the second play, Moore ran right and cut back to the left for a 38-yard touchdown score.

The Colonels extended the advantage to 14-0 with 6:51 left in the second quarter. Barrett scored from a yard out two plays after Moore completed a fourth-down 32-yard pass to Faeth.

Dixie Heights pulled away in the third quarter. Moore had a 70-yard run with 6:14 remaining and Faeth hauled in a 19-yard pass from Moore.

The Thoroughbreds hit the scoreboard 10 seconds into the fourth quarter. Smith used a stiff-arm to score from 23 yards out and Erik Anderson hit the extra-point attempt.

Following Barrett’s second touchdown run with 8:30 left in the game, Henschen hit Enslen for a 25-yard score with 1:35 remaining. The two-point run failed.

The Colonels lead the all-time series against the Thoroughbreds, 15-7. The teams have met for six straight seasons but are not scheduled to play each other next year.

NewCath travels to Erlanger on Friday to face the undefeated Lloyd Memorial Juggernauts (4-0). Game time is 7 p.m.

I realize these kids bust their butts, however when you have kids standing around when their QB is getting hit, constantly, something has to be done. I've watched every Newcath game and the line is horrible. Say what you want, but that is a fact. Although coaches have told the players NOT to get on these sites, I realize some do, and if they aren't getting on here I'm sure their parents are and letting them know what is said. I sit in the stands and hear all those parents of these kids yelling and complaining about the non-existing blocking. If what I wrote bothers them, then they need to step up and do their job on the field. It's not about whether I played, stood on the sideline, or just wore a uniform, it's about the fact that some kids on the team bust their butts at practice and yet stand on the sideline watching their line get beat constantly. You have kids out there yelling at their line because they're not blocking. There is way too much arguing, yelling and bickering going on between these players and coaches, and someone needs to step up and put a stop to it. I feel bad for the guys out there on the field that worked their butts off. Guys like Hoover & Lawrence, they were beast out there.

Ncc is a year away. There's a lot of inexperienced players. They'll be fine in the long run. They have some solid football players. They need to get faster though.
