It amazes me that more Boone County parents do not choose to move their athletes. Football it seems to me, is just another after school activity. You would think that BW and CC would have a pipeline from Boone County, but that does not seem to be happening like it did in Kenton County before they improved their facilities.

I don't know about many, but as PigSkinJunkie pointed out. Football or sports for that matter was not and never has been our #1 concern. Academics always comes first and although I'm a Beechwood Grad and can't think of a better educational institute in the NKY area than Beechwood, I just am not one to pick up and move my family for the sole purpose of being in a certain district just so my kids can go there just for sports.

If Boone schools and especially Cooper didn't have good academics then I may think about moving, but I'm not moving just for sports. If I was going to do that then I would have done so long ago. Plus Union is much more affordable as housing goes than Ft. Mitchell. Trust me, I'd love to live back where I grew up in Ft. Mitchell, but I'm not paying 3 times the money for the same size house I have here.

Overall, I am VERY happy with the academic offerings, atmosphere, and administration in Boone Co. My sons are all but attending college this year, taking 5 AP classes each. Sports - for us - is just a fun diversion, not the way to college. I love our home, neighbors, and friends out here - no way am I moving when they will be moving on in two years. I can't speak for others.

Good for you!!! I'm as competitive as they come, but this is what more people need to understand. I think parents want more importance placed on sports than the kids sometimes. The high majority of athletic careers are going to be over in just a couple years and even the lucky ones that get 4 more years (if they actually want to play in college) will be done soon after that. Then comes the majority of their life where education and relationships take you way further than any sport. Way too much emphasis placed on high school sport and getting scholarships.

I asked the Boone Super about kids going to schools outside of Boone County and if he was concerned about it happening. Mr. Poe said he was not concerned AT ALL because in the long run the school district gets more money.

Not entirely true. The money is fact, as when Cooper opened they didn't even have the money to get practice mats for the cheerleaders so I doubt they have $5 mill sitting around to put field turf on all the boone county schools.

Money has been offered time and time again to turf the fields at different points, Boone BOE said no.

Has Powell been hurt?

Yes, but healthy now.

Someone has offered to foot the bill to turf all 3 fields "time and time again" and the BOE said no??? I find that impossible to believe.

Who is this person and is he/she looking to adopt??

He played a lot the NewCath game to get reps. He missed 2 games.

Got to get the facts straight in this one.

Money hasn't been offered time and time again.

Some of the money (I think around $100k) or there about was going to be donated by Shaun Alexander for Boone County High School football field. The BOE said they could only do it if the other high schools in the county were to also get field turf. Because Shaun's donation wouldn't cover the entire cost of the field the BOE didn't think it fair they pick up the rest of the tab for Boone Co. High School and not do the other fields in the county.

Ryle had the entire field donated by a donor ( Or what wasn't covered by the donation was raised by the school or boosters of the school). The BOE paid 0 for Ryle's field which is why they have one. Cooper and Boone and Conner could do the same it they had a donation to cover the entire cost so the Board of Education didn't have to pay for it. Their reasoning I'm sure is it wouldn't be fair to pay for 1 field to have field turf put in and not pay for the others.

So where you come up with they have been offered time and time again but refused I have no idea. I can tell you though with 99.9% certainty you are 100% wrong.

So Alexander was only going to contribute to the turf at BC, not pay for it entirely?

This is true. Doesn't make sense but it's true.

He wasn't covering all the cost for the field.

I'd have to see the meeting minutes or hear it directly from Poe before I believe it.

I'm with you. I've never heard there was anyone donating the costs to turf all 3 fields.

I've heard there were donor to foot some of the bill which is entirely different.

People talk about the cost of the turf, which has dropped considerably. What you have to do to the field in preparation for the turf is very expensive.....it's the drainage and the filler that really drives the cost up from what I understand. So, for example, if you say "I will give you $100,000 for the turf and the turf costs $100,000...." that's great EXCEPT that everything else surrounding the preparation and installation costs another $100,000....not so great, not even close. JUST USING ROUND NUMBERS FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSES
