theguru Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 From a PFT Report on this statement by the NFL: “Security for Atlantic City casinos is handled by the New Jersey State Police,” the NFL said in a statement released to PFT. “Any videos related to an ongoing criminal investigation are held in the custody of the state police. As we said yesterday: We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator. That video was not made available to us.”
theguru Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 And getting the New Jersey State Police on the record is only a small part of what needs to be done. Also from PFT, they call for an outside investigation, and I agree 100%. Consider what Mike Florio from PFT had to say: The outside investigation needs to begin with the Ravens and to continue with the league office. The NFL needs to find out exactly what the Ravens knew, when they knew it, what they believed, what they assumed, whether they saw the tape, whether they didn’t see the tape, and all other facts and circumstances regarding the manner in which the Ravens collected all facts and circumstances relating to the Rice case. Then, the outside investigation needs to turn over every relevant stone at 345 Park Avenue, finding out what the league knew, when the league knew it, what the league did in order to know things, what the league didn’t do in order to know things, and everything else that would help the league office, the owners, and the public understand how such a seemingly straightforward situation became so badly bungled. Unlikely many, I believe that the team and the league didn’t see the tape before Monday. Like many, I’m befuddled by the team’s and the league’s failure to get the tape. At a time when it feels like the NFL is circling the wagons and/or individual employees of the team and/or the league are looking for cover, the only way to restore public respect in and support of the all-important shield is to set aside agendas and self-interests and get to the truth. At this point, the only way to do that is to retain someone with no stake in the outcome to find out precisely how the team and the league got to this point.
Jumper_Dad Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I saw today that NJSP only handles crimes on the Casino Floor and that this would have fallen to the ACPD since it happened away from the gambling floor where their jurisdiction is absolute. Atlantic City Police Department handles crimes committed else where in the casino/hotel

The State Police clarified that disturbances on the casino floor would be handled by the NJSP, but because the Ray Rice incident took place in the elevator, it was under the jurisdiction of the Atlantic City Police Department. http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/9/9/6126269/nfl-response-ray-rice-tmz-video
PurplePride92 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I do feel like the NFL and Ravens hadn't seen the tape based on info we have on the situation at this point. However, they both knew there was a tape of the inside of the elevator and it seems they either didn't do enough to get that tape or the police wouldn't let them have it for some reason. Lots of questions need to be answered before anyone can come up with a true picture of this diabolical mess.

I heard on TV today that Rice's attorney had the video pretty much the entire time, but he wasn't going to turn it over. Looks like TMZ is the only one aware that Atlantic City Police and not New Jersey State Police were working the case.
theguru Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 Good link JD, from the link: While the phrasing has slightly changed, the sentiment remained the same. The NFL maintains that the league was unable to gain access to the video until Monday, via ESPN: "We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including any video that may exist. We spoke to members of the New Jersey State Police and reached out multiple times to the Atlantic City Police Department and the Atlantic County prosecutor's office. That video was not made available to us and no one in our office saw it until yesterday."
theguru Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 I changed the title everyone to reflect the updated info.

Consider this: But TMZ co-executive producer Charles Latibeaudiere told "FOX Sports Live" on Monday night that despite the NFL's assertions, sources working at Revel Casino at the time of the incident told TMZ that "people from the NFL" went to the casino shortly after the incident and saw the video TMZ released on Monday. Latibeaudiere acknowledged that Goodell was not among those who saw the video at the casino, but that "employees of the NFL were at the casino to see the video." However, the league never requested a copy of the tape. Report: NFL never asked for video of Ray Rice elevator assault | FOX Sports

I just don't understand anyone's thought process who was directly involved in this situation.
Jumper_Dad Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I think the NFL Security guys will take the fall and maybe deservedly so, that had to be who went to the casino.
Jumper_Dad Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I changed the title everyone to reflect the updated info. I wonder if they (ACPD) were ever actually asked for the video? Some Departments release everything they get to the media and outside investigators and some don't without being required to.
woodsrider Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Correct me if I'm wrong. Ray Rice told the NFL exactly what happened. His account was pretty much exactly what happened on the the tape. The only thing the tape did was confirm what he told the NFL. What does it matter if they saw the tape? They knew what happened and gave him 2 games. The tape changes nothing.

If that is the same stance the Ravens are taking then they are caught in a bold faced lie also because yesterday Harbauhj was asked if they had seen the tape before or requested to see the tape and he said how can you request something you didn't know existed. NFL and ravens both are guilty.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!!! I heard someone say today, that if there was video of Mike Vick fighting dogs, he would have never got back in the league.
