September 8, 201412 yr Hey HB let me let you in on a secret, hurdling is an attempt to avoid a tackle... And why didn't he try to cut around him? My guess is because if the punter is going low you have less chance of being tripped by going over him than you do trying to make a cut around him where he can reach an arm out and make a shoestring tackle. And lets ignore the fact of the two Browns players that end up tackling him. You know the one that came from the left and the one that came from the right... The problem was, that wasn't a hurdle. I think too many who want to excuse his actions are stuck in believing he was hurdling the punter. My stance is he wasn't hurdling the punter. I've never seen a hurdler land first in the same leg he led with when starting his hurdle. Show me any video of a hurdler who leads with his right leg over a hurdle and thenlands on that very same right leg first. I also never seen a hurdler stick that right leg out and then kick with it in the air straight ahead as if kicking a door open. Brown had to come up with an excuse for his idiotic actions and that was the first thing that came to mind. If he was "trying" to hurdle the punter then you'd think he would have at least jumped UP instead of just forward with no attempt to lift his leg over the punter. He didn't try to avoid the punter in any way, not to the left, not to the right and not even over top.

And when you are hurdling, you have to go forward or else you won't make it over the object (or person) you are hurdling. Well there was a guy to his left and right (the same ones who ended up tackling him by coming from his sides) and he tried to avoid him by going over the top, which is why he was off the ground.

It completely blows my mind that any logical human being would believe that his intention from the start was to jump up and to kick the punter in the face on national TV with 50,000 people watching.
September 8, 201412 yr So, you've never watched anyone hurdle? You always land on the lead leg. Physics makes it nearly impossible not to... You are right, I screwed up, what I meant to talk about was I've never seen a hurdler kick with their leading leg, basically when you leave the ground with your lead leg, never seen the only bring it up half way and then kick straight out like kicking a door in. Thats what I meant..just very awkward way of hurdling which tells me he wasn't hurdling.

Why not? It is what he did isn't it? He kicked the guy square in the head, it was on national tv and with 50,000 people watching. It's pretty hard to,say it didn't happen, there is video of it too.

September 8, 201412 yr You are failing to read the part where woodsrider said "his intention from the start".... I read that. As I already said, it didn't look like any effort was made to hurdle and that is why I said it looked to me he intentionally did what he did...from the start.
September 8, 201412 yr I read that. As I already said, it didn't look like any effort was made to hurdle and that is why I said it looked to me he intentionally did what he did...from the start. Then we have differing opinions of what a hurdle is. I think it looks pretty cut and dry that Brown was trying to hurdle the punter and may others seem to share that same opinion. You're the only one that apparently feels jumping up in the air while going forward and trying to go over top of an obstacle does not constitute a hurdle.

Btw, when I was describing what a hurdler does, I was trying to say what I thought I did when I said leave the ground with right foot and la ding with right foot, what I meant to say s a hurdler doesn't leave the ground with his right foot and land with his left foot. Now look at the video and you will see he leaves the ground with his right foot but lands first with his left. That ismwhatmi meant to say. Also I'm not the only one who thnks he inte ntionally kicked him. Actually I was alerted about it by other people before I saw it and they all said it looked like he purposely kicked him. Also even on here there were others that said it looked like a kick and not a hurdle. Put me on the side that says his kick was not an accident. Regardless of why he was in the air he made the conscious decision to kick the punter. One last question NKU, have you ever seen the NBA slam dunk competition? You know when a player decides to dunk over top someone, what do they do? They jump over the person or the object by spreading their legs, same as many foot all players have done when "hurdling" a player, they don't jump pointing their foot at the target and expect to jump over the player. It's just not how it's done. If he wanted to avoid him in the air all he had to do was the splits and he is over the punter. No attempt to avoid him in the air at all. What are you talking about? He jumped in the air and started to extend his leg. That was the effort to hurdle. The punter drew back leaving Brown up in the air with no where to go.

The punter drew back leaving Brown up in the air with no where to go. No where to go? He could have done what every player does when They hurdle a player and that is straddle the guy they are jumping over. Ive never seen a guy jump at someone with his leg half cocked and then thrust it forward in a kicking motion directly into another player if they were trying to avoid him. There was no effort or attempt at all in avoiding the Player and that is where I guess we will always disagree. If you think kicking a player is trying to avoid him then we have different definitions of what avoid means.
