Pretty sure these two were both 3A in these years. I know they were in 79 and 80. Both had good teams in those years.

Almost positive NCC has never been 3A.

Depending on when I get finished with my softball tournament I will try to stop by and catch some of this game on my way home.

NewCath was 3a in the late 70's and early 80's when there was only 4 classes. We were in the same district as Highland's and Newport. They won the 2a state championship in 84 when the school went coed with OLP.

Yep! HHS, NC and Newport were all 3a (in a 4 division state) and all were very good and it was a heated rivalry between all 3 schools!

Yep and HHS one loss came at the hands of Newport. Knocked them out of any playoff hopes with a 10-1 record. My how times have changed. Now everyone gets a ribbon. And if not... There's always the "All-A"... Had to throw that in since RCC9 is on a sabbatical. But I will say it wS nice to have the rivalries so close to home.

Couldn't think of it earlier, but lloyd was the 4th team in the district.

I haven't talked to Lawnboy in a while.

Likewise, look forward to finally meeting you.

I'll text you guys tomorrow afternoon. :thumb: Don't know if I can take being with 3 Simon Kenton fans, and one who is a(NewCath Alum)"Benedict Arnold", or should I say...Benedict Joe. :lol2:

NCC will be a little more prepared for this than people think. Neff back at tackle along with 2 starters from last year should greatly improve the oline. Soph Qb has had another week to prepare, as well as, a skill player back who didn't play against Campbell.

That O-line is going up against probably the best front 7 SK has ever had. They are big and nasty.

SK's starting front seve on defense.

NT 90 Marksberry 6'0 250 Sr.

DE 50 Mueller 6'1 260 Jr.

DE 78 Powell 5'11 235 Jr.

OLB 7 Hicks 6'3 215 Sr.

MLB 24 Carter 5'10 210 Sr.

MLB 56 Gowen 6'1 215 Sr.

OLB 45 Deaton 6'4 230 Sr.

Is this game still being play...or did NCC just call in the forfeit?

A lot of seniors!

I don't believe the folks up on the hill are the forfeit type.

Back in the late 70's and early 80's there were 8 teams in NKY that were 3A. In addition to those mentioned you had Scott, Conner, Holmes and I believe SK.

For a few years that actually had Sub-districts. HHS, Newport, and NewCath along with Scott were in one sub-district. Lloyd, Conner, Holmes and SK were the other. At one point in the 1980 season NewCath was ranked #1 in 3a, HHS #3 and Newport #5. Unfortunately after they played Newport moved (I believe ) to #3, with Highlands and Newcath both falling to around 10 or lower. Conner ended up beating Newport to go down state for 3A from NKY.

Wow!!! 8 teams in the district and only 1 went to the state tournament???? Are you kidding me???? What in the world did the other poor boys do back then???? How is that fair?????
