I was the poster in the previous thread. Agreed if you go back the past 9 years NCC has been competive. You would have to agree though that in the past three years the trend as turned the other way.

Sorry guys, but that is what wrong with the Kentucky Playoff system period. Why is a 2A team having to schedule 4 - 6A teams to start the season? The KSSAA needs to re-think the 6 Class system that they have. With 221 team, you do not need 6 Classes. It can be easily refigured to 3 or 4 classes, plus all games should count (like Ohio). It's one thing for playing one "big" game a year (Highlands-Elder, Cov. Cath - Moeller), but for a 2A team to be playing 4 above average 6A schools, is nutts. There has to be a better way. BTW, NCC will have new QB tomorrow, and Anderson will move to WR.

It would be that way no matter what. If you have only 4 classes, the Breds would still be playing bigger schools before district play.

 

It's just a fact of life when it comes to High School football. 1A and 2A teams have to play up before district play starts, and 6A plays down. No big deal, seems NCC has fared pretty well in the past by playing up by winning several State Titles and playing in a total of 7 championship games since 2005.

But what do these 6A schools gain by playing a 2A school. IMO, very little (they might as well scrimmage themselves). I don't feel it is beneficial either way. Not making excuses either way; just feel all games should count. If they did, I can assure you the 2A schools would find 1A and 3 A schools; and not have to "fill" their schedule with that many 6A schools.

One thing that will always hold true is there are many smaller schools that can hang with and beat in many cases the bigger schools they play. Therefor bigger schools playing some smaller schools is not too big of an issue for those smaller schools many times end up being better competition than the schools in the bigger schools districts.

I like it better than Ohio. It allows for much more scheduling flexibility. You don't have to worry about the end product, only the process. It allows improvement through the season. Selfishly, it allows small schools to stay competitive at the state level. If you only schedule like size schools around here, most games would be blowouts.

NCC is not a typical 2A school like Lloyd or Newport. They draw kids from all of Campbell County including Newport, Ft. Thomas, Bellevue, Dayton, Alexandria, Cold Springs, Highland Heights, etc. They have in the past been very capable of competing with those big schools because it is not about enrollment. It is about the quality and talent of the kids they get. It is almost an annual basis that they end up with the best players out of Bellevue, Dayton and a lot of good ones out of Alexandria.

 

Also, 6 classes is very misleading when it comes to enrollment in KY. The largest 2A school has 315 boys and the smallest 4A school has 428 boys. That is a minimal difference. 6A schools double 2A enrollment so the number is much greater, but quantity does not always equal quality.

Yet, in Indiana every team makes the playoffs. Ohio does their system out of sheer necessity. They have too many teams to run a 4 to 5 week playoff.

I doubt it. Another good class of Freshman for the Jags as well as only graduating 3 starters all offensively. I wouldn't get my hopes up. This Cooper team is VERY young, but experienced!

Newcath's JV squad beat Cooper 20-2, they probably could have used some of those freshmen. If not for a bad snap

on a Newcath punt deep in Cooper territory, it would have been a shut out.

Ohio qualifies 32 teams in each Division. D1 has 2 -16 team regions; D2 to D7 has 4 - 8 teams regions. It runs 5 weeks... the same as Ky playoffs. Not every team in Indiana makes the playoffs.

FYI, there division vary widely with number of schools. Smaller school divisons have either 63-64 teams; larger schools division only have 30-32.

Campbell County is obviously much better under Lickert. SK as well. The 2012 game NewCath had the ball at the 7 yard line going in and didn't score on 4th down w/ 5 seconds left there abouts. That Holmes loss in 2012 was an ugly, wet game. Probably the worst game that NewCath has played in that 9 year period. Dixie is Dixie, you never know what you are going to get.
