Hard to argue that 3 years doesn't make a trend.

It was Michael Robinson. While Pat was the overall star of the game with some incredible plays, both on offense and defense. Probably the best single game performance in the past 7 years.

 

However, the catch that Robinson made on the sidline was THE BEST catch I have ever seen at the High School level. It kept the final drive alive allowing CovCath to come back from a 20 point deficit.

New Cath has had a strong run of talent since '05 and it has dipped this past year or so. Their Senior class is not super talented, but for 2A still pretty good. They have very good Junior and Sophmore classes. New Cath may struggle some with the large schools this year, but they will make another deep run in the playoffs. The next few years "On the Hill" look good for Breds football.

I would agree, but if it gets them to the State Finals every year, I'll take it, as would a "boatload" of schools.

Point being... the Class system (6 classes) for only 221 schools is a joke. Of the 221 teams, 192 make the playoffs (32 teams in each class). That is almost 87%. That also means you have 0-10, 1-9, 2-8 teams making the playoffs. All 1A, and 6A teams make the playoffs because there are only 32 teams in those classes. As a comparison, Ohio last year went to a 7th Division (split the big school division (D1) into D1 and D2. They have 713 schools for those 7 Divisions. Before last year, the same 713 schools played in 6 Division (so it was easy to play a 9-10 game schedule within your class or even playing some games a class above). ALL games count. Those two points, large number of teams within the class, plus All games count allows teams to play similar size schools.

You will not find 0-10, 1-9 teams making the playoffs in Ohio. I just feel, Ky needs to consider some changes. I really like Ky HS football; hate the system they have to play in.

 

I get your premise, however all schools make the playoffs in most other sports, so unless your going to change all sports, 6 classes will be.

Large part of the issue is some parents had to pull their kids from the parochial schools when the economy tanked, when the kids were in grade school. Those kids that are now high school aged, are still in public high schools. That trend is now changing more and more each year at the lower grades.

One problem, all other sports are not divided into 6 classes. ALL A basketball tourney includes 2A football schools, yet all schools are eligible for the actual State tournament championship. There are not 6 classes in tennis, cross-country etc. In Kentucky, all schools are eligible in all sports, but you have to qualify for the playoffs in football ONLY. I have lived in NKY most of my life. I just do not understand why all HS football games do not count in KY. (only 3 or 4 district games count). It's kind of like both the District winner and District runner-up in baketball, going to the Regional. So you lose in the district but still go to the Regional in basketball, and in football - you can go 0-10, 1-9, 2-8 and still be eligible for the playoffs. Makes no sense to me. That's why I spend more time following Ohio Football and Basketball....every game counts.

I guess I have looked at it more from a National perspective, where the entire season is evaluated.

I like to see how the best from Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky match up with Florida, Texas, Cali, New Jersey etc. Exciting to watch Lou. Trinity play the last 5-6 years, they represented KY very well.

I guess it is how one looks at things.

If that's what those on the hill think is have their way with them, then maybe they should look for different educational choices. 20-18 :idunno:
