Down Under Bowl

Featured Replies

I am looking for information on the Down Under Bowl put on by International Sports Specialists Inc. It is a trip to New Zealand to play for the KY state team. My son received information on this and I am wondering if it is a worthwhile venture?

I've known of many people receiving information on and being selected to play in it but not known of anyone actually going. I do remember a few years back a player from Paintsville did some fund raising to get to go, but I don't think he actually went to be honest with you. I do know it cost a mint to participate.

Just my two cents.....if you have to pay to play, it's probably just a vacation. Your money would probably be better spent on going to some good camps.

You may want to ask/PM 00Rocket28... he participated in it a few years ago. If I remember correctly he had a blast with it.. :thumb:

I've heard of some people getting those for basketball as well. I know of people getting letters to go to Denmark, Australia, and other places. I know a kid who went to Australia and he had a blast.

I totally agree....... unless of course you want a good vacation, coupled with some football. In that case go for it.

Seems like last year every senior(around 15) from my high school got letters to the down under bowl. I think its just a money grabber. Also tho it would be a great vacation

I know a couple of kids from South and North Laurel who played in these games (they get to play more than 1 game). They loved the experience. They got to travel and play football against teams from other states, countries, etc. If you have the money, it is a great experience for the kids.

Yeah it may be a great experience but do the kids actually benefit from it like they would a camp??? I mean the learning experience coupled with the possibility of being noticed by scouts.

Of course it is a money grabber, what is not? But, if one can afford I am sure it is a great time.

These were seniors going to play in Australia. And to be honest, not much better than game experience IMHO.

From my understanding many senior to be players receive these offers as well.

Does Tom Posey still coach the Kentucky team at the Down Under Bowl?

I got invited my freshmen season and this season, I just didn't go because of the price!:scared:

It is only for graduated seniors. Underclassmen cannot play. It would be illegal. It cost about 3,000 dollars to go. You play two games and stop off at Hawaii for a couple of days on the way back. If you can afford it it is OK. It will not help you get a scholarship at a college. They will take anyone with the money. A lot of kids get invited. They have to invite everybody hoping to get enough players to have a team. As far as being prestigious, I don't think so, since all seniors have a chance to go. I do believe that Tom Pozey is the coach. Not trying to say not go, but just let you know that hundreds get invitations. If they invite underclassmen it is because they don't know you are not a graduate from high school. GO if you can, it would be fun and a good experience.
