DeSales 31 Meade County 7 Scrimmage

It does not matter when we are talking about private schools without boundaries.

The only boundaries ANY school has are the ones they self impose on themselves. That's the school's that self imposes boundaries fault, not the ones that don't self impose boundaries.

Okay.

It is not a boundaries issue per say. It is an issue that public schools do not actively seek students from other school districts. It is recruiting of students from all over an area. In that sense, IMO, classification does not matter and small private schools should be able to compete with larger public schools.

Does Raceland seek out students from neighboring towns?

Okay.

You bet.

I love whenever a conversation goes the wrong way, people want me to talk about Raceland. 40% of Raceland's student body lives in other school districts. Does Raceland "seek" out students? No. The students and their parents seek out Raceland.

If the school district is doing things correctly, students and, more importantly, their parents will want to attend and send their children to that school.

Do you think schools should own the student just because the student lives in their "district"? Doesn't the school have a responsibility to do things correctly to earn the right to keep those students?

So it took missed assignments for him to get into your backfield huh? He led the state in sacks last year. 26 I believe. But yeah, it took missed assignments for him to get in your backfield. He was in your backfield most of the night. A lot of that was because you guys wouldn't run his side. So we really only scored 21 but a bad call gave us 28. lol Tell yourself whatever you need to feel better about Meade. 2A vs 6A really doesn't matter huh? lol You have about a thousand more students than we do. Look...Good luck to Meade County hope you guys do well. But don't try to minimize what happened friday night just because we are a 2A school.

Good Luck this year...My only point was the scrimmage just was not as lumpsided as you describe.

Justafan,

So how is Meade County looking this year. I ask for obvious reasons (We play them in week 3). I think Meade has a two year window to possibly beat JH beginning this season.

You bet.

I think the issue is most parents in the public school system don't have the ability to choose to take their kids to any school in the area. Most are mandated to attend a particular school based on their residence. Obviously the public vs private debate won't be solved until a league featuring only private schools is developed. Schools from TN..KY..OH & IN could develop their own football league.

Don't be so naive.

Wrong way? You lost me there.

Then Raceland is the exception due to location, rather than the rule.

No, schools should not and do not own kids.

Yes, the school has a responsibility to do things right.

I agree with some of that, but the original point was: privates don't have boundaries, but publics do. The only boundaries that public school have are self imposed. Why do we need rules for privates to have boundaries? Public schools do not have to have boundaries, they create them for themselves, not he KHSAA or KBE, the schools do it, then people gripe because other school do not have boundaries. The problem is not "private schools not having boundaries", the problem is "public school self-imposing boundaries".

Why are public schools not actively seeking students? Are they just waiting on students to show up? It's just like a business, you build a better product and you advertise that product to get customers. Then you provide great customer service to keep those customers.

Exactly. Build it, and build it correctly. But don't build it and limit who can come.

We looked good..Obviously it was a scrimmage..we have a few things to clean up, especially mental breakdowns (Penalties). But as a whole we played physical and made a lot of plays. I thought our defense played the run very well, and for the most part they knew their keys and assignments. We need a few adjustments with our pass defense. We played a lot of kids Friday working on depth. We replaced a lot of good players this year, but this team has the potential to perform and win as well.

I agree 100%...a public school can improve the product by having a great program to offer. Enticing families to move to their school system based on what the school has to offer.

Here is the point that I made:

2A DeSales with kids from all over Louisville and probably some bordering counties SHOULD be able to compete with and/or beat a 6A school (Meade County) with kids from Meade County. That was my only point. IMO, classification does not matter when you are talking about private or small public schools like Beechwood with open enrollment. That is all.
