Have to ask don't these kids sweat during the game? Doesn't that get all over each other?

 

Isn't the bigger question- why is the Ludlow staff playing a kid who is clearly very ill despite being up 34-6? If he doesn't play no one has to worry about vomit. Sheese.

I guess I come at if from a different point of view being a wrestling coach. Its a guarantee that you will get blood on you from your opponent at some point. You clean it up, stop the bleeding, and continue on.

No there isn't. The claim made by the coaching staff and the boy's father was that he does it all the time because he's nervous. Even if that's the case, it still doesn't make it okay to continue to let him play with vomit all over him. That's just common sense and common courtesy. However, it seems odd that he was still nervous in the third quarter when they were winning 34-6. I watched Ludlow play at Twenhofel earlier in the season and I don't recall seeing anyone vomit. And we have friends who play for Turkeyfoot, and there were no players vomiting when they played Ludlow. The kid was obviously dehydrated, cramping and weak. Regardless of why he was vomiting, his safety was not placed first. Would any of you want to touch or land in someone else's vomit? I bet not.

Exactly--you clean it up and move on. That's all Twenhofel wanted--change his uniform, pants included, and finish the game! I watched them change his jersey on the sidelines, but not his pants.

I've personally coached the kid before he's always done this all through peewee and now middle school this kid isn't degydrat or sick just something he does and I as well know many players and parents from the other teams he did throw up in those games as well! Also his pants where changed as well in the locker room he was evaluated by the trainer multiple times and the trainer and varsity coach even walked out to mid field for the multiple meetings of coaches and Refs and the rule book was pulled out and the twenhafel coaches just walked away! As for being classless? I was sitting among those Ludlow parents and not once did I hear a "bad" comment come from a parents mouth these kids where simply getting fired up and wanted to continue the game while twenhafel stood on the sidelines and using all 3 time outs the parents and fans back these boys up to the end no question about that they will cheer for them and with them! Simply in my opinion the game should have been finished!

Also to add to your comment of ludlow playing "a lot of 8th graders" there's some not a lot of them on this team and look at the population numbers for Ludlows schools compare that to most of the teams they play in this middle school league it was approved by the league in order for them to play in the league they have a mixture between the grade levels, and even with having the 8th graders there most if not all the kids Ludlow has played this year has been significantly bigger then most of these kids from ludlow! People keep trying to throw that out there like ludlpw is only winning because of the 8th graders!

I agree with the "population numbers". My daughter is a 7th grader at Ludlow and her ENTIRE 7th grade class has less than 50 students. She said that her largest class size this year is 14 students; her smallest is 8 students. Last year as 6th graders, there were two classrooms of less than 24 students in each room. I do not believe that the 8th grade class is much larger than the 7th grade class. If Ludlow were not able to combine multiple classes; then they would not be able to field a middle school football team.

 

I know nothing about the middle school football team, other than I hear they are having a good year. I asked my kids (junior and 7th grader) about the player (not knowing his name; but describing the vomiting) and they both immediately said, "Oh yeah, he does that." I would hope though that Ludlow kept him cleaned up (there appears to be a disconnect re: his changing of uniform jersey and pants).

There are two issues. First, if the kid was vomiting that badly, and to a point where he was throwing up on himself, he absolutely should have been required to change any clothing that was affected. And if this happens consistently, there has to be some underlying issue, and to keep running him out there cannot possibly be healthy. Second, up 34-6, was there really a need to the starting RB even on the field, especially after he threw up several times??

 

The Twenhofel staff is a quality bunch of guys. They've both taken and given their share of beatings over the yars and have always handled themselves with class.

This player changed his uniform both jersey and pants, and the score was 27-6 at the point he ran another touchdown, that's where twenhafel went into there uproar over him being in the game/throwing up! Again he was in the game still because of the numbers ludlow had I believe 4-5 subs that could go in for him none of which have played his position nor know what his position is (first year players) therefore kinda hard to take him out!

So this player doesn't have a backup?? What if he were to get hurt?? I wasn't there, and don't have a dog in the fight. But as a coach, there a couple reasons to take the kid out. One, no way am I continuing to play a kid that has thrown up multiple times in a game, especially if he is unable to avoid throwing up on himself. It simply cannot be healthy. Second, no reason to have your starting running back in a game where you are up 4 touchdowns in the second half, especially if he is sick. I understand the numbers situation, but there has to be some sort of a plan if that player were to get hurt. And it is middle school football...no need to run up the score, and in a blowout it's a perfect opportunity to get another kid some game experience.
