This player changed his uniform both jersey and pants, and the score was 27-6 at the point he ran another touchdown, that's where twenhafel went into there uproar over him being in the game/throwing up! Again he was in the game still because of the numbers ludlow had I believe 4-5 subs that could go in for him none of which have played his position nor know what his position is (first year players) therefore kinda hard to take him out!

I am a Twenhofel parent as well as the wife of one of the assistant coaches. I am also a healthcare professional. The young man in question was vomiting on the field during play, as well as on the sidelines. He would walk off the field and vomit, not even able to stand up. This happened several times. Right before the end of the second quarter the trainer escorted him to the locker room. However he returned for the third quarter, and continued to vomit on the field. Twenhofel's coaches refused to continue the game until he changed his uniform. It had nothing to do with the fact that we were losing. Ludlow is a great team having a great season. We expected to lose that game, especially considering that was Twenhofel's 6/7th grade team playing against a lot of 8th graders. After much discussion between the coaches, the player's jersey was changed on the sidelines from #40 to #54. However, his pants were never changed. As a healthcare professional it is appalling to me that anyone on that field did not take into consideration that very boy was being exposed to someone else's BODILY FLUIDS! That is no different than if he had blood or urine on his uniform. It's called universal precautions--it is assumed that all fluids are infectious. Not only were players being subjected to this every time they touched him, but also every time they fell on the field, or when the linemen had to place their hands on the ground. I am disappointed that those of you on here are saying Twenhofel quit because we were losing, or that we just don't like seeing little Ludlow win. I have family that lives in Ludlow and goes to school there. To me, it's a lack of consideration for the well being and health of every other player out there. I've been around football long enough to see young men vomit when they are nervous. But not in the third quarter when you are winning 34-6. As a mom, I would never place a win as more important than my son's health. As a healthcare professional I can tell you it is absolutely not normal for an otherwise "healthy" 13/14 year old boy to vomit that frequently. He was pale and obviously dehydrated. It was disheartening to see a team, as well as the coaches,with a winning season show such poor sportsmanship, as they stood there on the sidelines, clapping and encouraging the disrespectful comments being yelled from the Ludlow parents/fans across the field to the Twenhofel staff. I, as well as all of our parents, applaud the class shown by our coaches. They honestly have the best interest at heart for our boys. You asked for it---that's our side.

 

My son coaches for a school that has a team of 6 & 7 graders playing in the NKMSAA 8th grade small division as well. He told me the young man also had vomiting issues in their game as well.

I've personally coached the kid before he's always done this all through peewee and now middle school this kid isn't degydrat or sick just something he does and I as well know many players and parents from the other teams he did throw up in those games as well! Also his pants where changed as well in the locker room he was evaluated by the trainer multiple times and the trainer and varsity coach even walked out to mid field for the multiple meetings of coaches and Refs and the rule book was pulled out and the twenhafel coaches just walked away! As for being classless? I was sitting among those Ludlow parents and not once did I hear a "bad" comment come from a parents mouth these kids where simply getting fired up and wanted to continue the game while twenhafel stood on the sidelines and using all 3 time outs the parents and fans back these boys up to the end no question about that they will cheer for them and with them! Simply in my opinion the game should have been finished!

 

Why should the game have been finished? You had a group of Twenhofel parents and coaches watching this kid throw up numerous times on the field. That would be disturbing for anyone to watch. I know when I watch someone puke there is a 60% chance I may yak. They had zero knowledge of this kids prior condition. According to the previous posts he came out with the same jersey on but had changed pants. Why wouldn't the jersey have been changed along with the pants. You just put a soiled jersey on with clean pants? How did they know for sure and I mean 100% for sure that this time it wasn't a stomach virus? Did the trainer run lab work? Assuming anything when it comes to player safety is simply not smart. Now throw in the fact Ludlow was winning 34-6! Really?? Was it about winning 54-6? If that's the case I had no idea Steve Spurrier was moonlighting as a middle school coach.

Congrats to Ludlow for their success this year. Trust me though, the Twenhofel staff has been around a long time, and has taken and given their share of beatings. All with class. That same staff let a kid from Woodland with some physical disabilities score a TD early in the 4th quarter of a 3 TD game. Most of the middle school teams in the NKMSAA pull their starting backfield when they get up 4 or 5 TDs. I've seen starters pulled before halftime. I can understand leaving your starters in to start the second half. But with 8 minute quarters, in the many years I've been around middle school football, I've never seen a team comeback from a 4 TD deficit at any point in a game. There is no need to leave a vomiting kid in a game with a 4 TD lead, unless you want to keep running up the score.

How bout taking the kid out and letting another one of the 8 that were standing give it a shot? (I also counted 19 kids from your picture) Let the game play and when Twenhofel made that fearful comeback put him back in and then make your stand. Refusing to compromise at all should in no way be applauded. According to the playoff brackets Twenhofel had won one game all season and Ludlow was undefeated. So this game had zero bearing even on playoff brackets. Didn't Ludlow beat the 7th grade Twenhofel team last year? So making the argument that Twenhofel just didn't want to lose to Ludlow makes zero sense. Saying that a team quit is insulting. My nephew plays for Tichenor Middle School. My brother in law had the brackets which were broken up into Small, Middle and Large School. No scores just win/lose records. Am I wrong??

No,that's the way it's broken down.probably your brother-in-law was privy to standings and scores. Nkmsaa doesn't make any information available except for schedules that I know of and thought you had a source

I am one of the Twenhofel coaches that everyone would like to hear from. Let me start by saying that we try to teach things about football and life that are way more important than the score of a football game. I along with all of our coaches have been around this great game for a very long time. We all have seen kids throw up before games, during games, after games, at practice you name it. You claim nerves are the reason. I have never seen a player still nervous in the 3rd quarter with a 34-6 lead! We have no problem with the vomit, do it in a trash can, the weeds, bathroom, anywhere except the field of play and on yourself. We have to protect our players from whatever, PERIOD...

I am not going to down play Ludlow at all, they should win the small school division with ease. Do yourself a favor and stop feeling like everyone is out to get poor ole Ludlow, that's not the case. Many of my friends and family have coached for your program, all are very good guys.

We played that game with all 6th and 7th grade players, we had several 6th graders starting and Ludlow without a doubt has a very good team this year. With that being said, do you think that we really thought we had a shot of winning that game? Our goal was to keep it respectable. After the 3rd quarter vomit issue, our coaching staff decided that we had to step in and protect our kids if the referees and Ludlow's staff were not going to. We brought it to the white hats attention several times before that and he did nothing. We met at the 50 yard line with Ludlow's coaches who absolutely refused to remove the kid from the game, including the varsity coach. 34-6 lead, great sportsmanship guys. You had 20 players out there that day, no other player can play tailback for a few plays while he changes his clothes? 34-6 and our starters are on the sideline, time to get some of the other kids some reps. I understand that not all staffs believe in the same things, to each there own. To rjs440, thank you for your comments. Woodland asked us if we minded letting the kid you are talking about score a touchdown, kuddos to them for even asking. WE said ABSOLUTELY, put him in now. I believe we were up 3 touchdowns at that time and had our 2's in. After the kick-off, we threw an interception which made it a 6 point game, who cares... Hopefully it made that kid feel good about himself if even for just a little while, I know it did for us and we would be happy to do it again even if we were only winning by 1 touchdown. It's more than a game guys, it's life.
