Most people know Ashland will rely heavily on Quinton Baker with his 1,600 yards rushing from last year. With the addition of Ironton transfer Jake Long, Ashland will have another option.

 

Long transferred to Ashland after the start of last season and saw action in the playoffs, but this will be his first full season with the Tomcats. And the Tomcat fans are excited about teams having to plan for both Baker and Long.

 

With quarterback Hunter Prince as a third option, how much trouble will teams have planning for three running threats? How surprised will teams be when they stop Baker, but Long runs for 150 yards? Is Long the player Ashland needed last season?

Although I can't answer the question I am real excited at Ashland's prospects this year.

Ashland's oline is untested and lost a few starters from last years team, as well as their fullback Vaugn, so he might not get the yards in the early season games to show how good he really is at the end of the season. If a kid of his talent was on a more traditional powerhouse team, he's probably be the talk of the state. There's alot of hype with the new stadium, maybe some of that energy pushes them far into the season.

Long will be a great addition now that he has had more time to learn the system. Have also heard he can play at widout, if needed.

Ashlands line did lose several, but that happens every year, I think they lost 18 starters the prior season. I think the o-line will be ok.

Baker will get the pub. He may deserve it. But the success for Ashland will rest on the broad shoulders of their best defensive player, Drew O'Bryan from his LB position. He layeth the wood.

Grass for now, which looked amazing when I visited a few days ago. The stadium is a true horeshoe shape now, as they have bowled in he grass corners on the closed end of the stadium, with a concrete walkway across the top. And the field has been untouched, so it still sits below the entrance.

There are some in the "Putnam stadium locker rooms greenlighted" thread, it may be a few pages back though, Ram posted them for me a few weeks ago. I'll stop by again around the end of the week and get some updated pics. They have been working around the clock the past couple of weeks to get it finished in time for next Friday.
