August 15, 201412 yr Can we place it online? I just checked an online site I've used before and the only college basketball future they had was who would win the title. UK favored at 4-1 then Arizona at 9-1. Duke and Wisconsin are 10-1. Kansas and UNC are 18-1.
August 15, 201412 yr Agreed. It's not a very good value at 50-1 IMO. Didn't someone on here say 50-1 paid $2500, if that's true that's good enough value for me. I'd rather take that chance than losing $50 in 30 minutes at blackjack. Explain why it's not a good value

August 15, 201412 yr I gamble as much as anybody on here and always a huge UK fan, but I don't like that bet. Almost impossible to hedge that bet and basically that is what you need to do to profit from futures. I wish you luck and will root for the Cats in every game regardless if I bet on them, against them, or not at all! He's talking about playing $100 or $50. Come on. That's very reasonable. Not likely for UK to do it, but he's not dropping thousands or even multiple $100s.
August 15, 201412 yr I'm rooting for them to go 40-0 also and I hope everyone wins all their bets! Just don't think that is fair value. No way to know exactly on the math, but I would think you could make as much or more money simply betting the cats on the money line every game and keep rolling it over each game? For sure don't want anyone to not do what they want based on what I have said on here, heck I play the Powerball every once in a while! Best of luck to all!
August 16, 201412 yr Betting any money on an undefeated season is a sucker bet. The last D1 perfect team was Indiana in 1976 and there is mich more talent out there now leading to more good teams and upset. The1995-96 Cats were loaded, sending eleven to the NBA when they were done at UK but still lost to UMass and Miss. State in the SEC tourney. Bet them $100/game against the spread and you would probably be up $1,200 to $1,500 for the season. This team has so much depth and talent there won't be any letdown by the subs in blowouts with everyone trying to gain playing time. That being said, I'm an UK alum and a title would bring out the medicinal rum--40-0 would be a two day party and a nasty hangover.
August 16, 201412 yr Just done a little looking into schedule and guessing at money lines. I am pretty sure you could bet the Cats each game w/ no spread and rollover each game and it would pay more than 50-1.
August 16, 201412 yr BIG BLUE NATION: DON'T GO CRAZY BECAUSE YOU SEE VEGAS PUTTING A 50:1 PAYOUT ON THE BOARD FOR UK TO GO 40-0. I REPEAT.... don't go crazy because you see Vegas putting a 50:1 payout on the board for UK to go 40-0. That's what's called a sucker bet. If you asked Warren Buffett or Paul Allen to play that in a zero sum game knowing that they had enough money to cover any payouts, and you'd told them that the objective of the game was to "win money", they'd probably take $20 from every Wildcat fan who wanted to sign it over. Vegas is basically saying they'd only take people's action because they think that if we played the season 50 times, we'd only go undefeated once, if even that. To put that in perspective, Vegas says that UK Football is an 80:1 shot to win the SEC and a 45:1 shot to win the SEC East. Think about that. Vegas thinks there's a better chance that UK's football team wins the SEC East than the Basketball team going 40-0. For perspective, some other 50:1 odds in Vegas right now (or better): Cincinnati Reds win the World Series Seattle Mariners win the World Series Cleveland Indians win the AL Pennant St Louis Rams win the Super Bowl New York Giants win the Super Bowl San Diego Chargers win the Super Bowl Tampa Bay Bucs win the NFC Arizona State to win the NCAA Football Championship Ole Miss to win the NCAA Football Championship Utah to win the Pac 12 Championship in Football California to win the Pac 12 North (over Oregon, Stanford, Washington, & Washington State) Using the Kentucky Derby to put the UK 40-0 in perspective: In the entire history of the Kentucky Derby, which is a one-off event that has a ton of variables and isn't the least bit predictable in many years, 50:1 odds have won twice. Those two wins at 50:1 are 2nd and 3rd on the all-time list of "longest odds to ever win". 4th place on that list belongs to a horse with 35:1 odds. 5th and 6th place on the same list belong to horses that came in at 30:1. That. And we're talking about a 138+ year history of the race. Edited August 16, 201412 yr by JokersWild24
August 16, 201412 yr For the record though if I was in Vegas the gambler in me would have to put money on that and UK to win it all. Regardless if they do or not it would bug me all season I didn't. Know what you're saying, but, UK to win it all is a much different bet than UK to go 40-0. UK will probably be the Vegas favorite to win it all and range somewhere from even money to 5 or 7:1 odds depending on how the season goes. Huge difference in that and 40-0.
August 16, 201412 yr Just done a little looking into schedule and guessing at money lines. I am pretty sure you could bet the Cats each game w/ no spread and rollover each game and it would pay more than 50-1. IIRC, in most instances, you can't bet with no spread in Vegas unless one team is a 10 point favorite or less.
August 16, 201412 yr I'd rather swallow the money and have Duke win. 5K isn't enough money for UK fans gloating about beating Duke for the title. Interesting story: I have a friend who was a huge Notre Dame fan (Catholic school kid, big football fan). He and a friend are in Vegas on his birthday. Friend says to birthday boy, "I'm going to put $100 or $200 on Notre Dame to win the national championship for your birthday". Places bet and gives friend the ticket. The catch: the year was 2012. Odds were good enough that friend should have took what'd he'd have won if Notre Dame won, paid his weekend fare to Vegas, and then split the difference by hedging his bet and taking Alabama in the title game. Friend did not. Friend wishes he had. Moral of the story: There's a reason favorites are favorites and people say "one in the hand is better than two in the bush". Alabama was an 8-10 point favorite in the game for a reason, and for that same reason, there weren't very good odds for you to play Alabama in that scenario before the season started. My advice: If you are going to spend that $100 betting come hell or high water, then put $20 on UK to go 40-0 (and don't be mad when you lose it). Put $20 of that on UK to win the SEC. Put $20 of that on Duke to win the ACC. Put $20 of that on UK to win the NCAA. Put $20 of that on Duke to win the NCAA or go to the Final Four. According to the odds and how you play it, you have a much better chance of having a "free roll" on UK to go 40-0 (because UK will most likely win the SEC), so those cancel. You are a Duke fan, you can root for them to win the ACC and go to the Final Four (or win the Natty). Those are probably going to be far more reasonable odds, and should Duke win the ACC, which they'll probably be one of the favorites to do, you've got another "free roll" on the payout if Duke goes to the Final Four or wins the Natty. If you're questioning the UK bet this much and want to put $100 on it, then you won't be kicking yourself if you place $20 on it and only take $1,000 (plus whatever they'd get for winning the SEC, which they'd have to do if going undefeated) in the unlikely event that it happens. Again, the above is just assuming that you are hell-bent on spending $100 gambling, but I think that's a much more reasonable way to play it and take a "break even" or maybe make $20-100 bucks while having some bets to watch the whole season instead of UK losing any single game and everything going up in a cloud of smoke. Just as an added bonus-- if you have UK and Duke to win the NCAA tournament/make the Final Four and want to hedge, you could always be back in Kentucky and doing legal office pools (legal so long as no one takes a cut) where you could hedge your bets and have them being upset early. If Kentucky gets upset when you call it, then you have a good shot at winning whatever your office pool is. If Duke gets upset early, then you have bragging rights for saying you called it, just like last year or '12.
August 16, 201412 yr While you are there, please check to see if there are odds on the Bengals going 19-0. (I'm guessing there would be a lot of digits involved in this bet.) The odds on ANY NFL team in the league (don't have to pick one, you just get the field) are 35:1. I'd imagine the odds on the Bengals going undefeated would be quite high, but I doubt they even offer that. I definitely don't see any from looking at websites that post Vegas odds. Bengals are 35:1 to win the Super Bowl and 14:1 to win the AFC. Probably an over/under on their win total of 9 or so is the closest you'd get to the number of games.
August 17, 201412 yr IIRC, in most instances, you can't bet with no spread in Vegas unless one team is a 10 point favorite or less. How many games do you think UK will play with money lines?
August 17, 201412 yr How many games do you think UK will play with money lines? Not sure, but the Kansas is probably the best bet. After that, Texas, North Carolina, UCLA and Louisville. I pick all of those because they are early and the lines usually are only released the day before the game and are highly dependent on what's going on with each team. Other good possibilities would be @ Missouri, @ Florida, @ LSU, @ Vanderbilt, vs. Tennessee, and vs. Florida.
