US General Killed by Terrorist Dressed as Afgan Soldier

American General Killed in Shooting at Afghan Military Academy - ABC News

An American general was killed today and 15 other soldiers wounded in an attack at a military academy in Afghanistan today.

The incident happened at a military academy that trained officers at Camp Qargha in Kabul when a gunman wearing an Afghan army uniform turned his weapon against Americans and other Afghans, ABC News has learned.

A U.S. official described the shooting victim as a two star major general, the highest ranking official to be killed in the Afghanistan war. American generals usually have their security detail.

It is the latest in a string of so-called "green-on-blue" attacks in Afghanistan, in which members of the Afghan forces have attacked U.S. and coalition forces. The attacks have become less frequent in recent months as fewer U.S. troops have been on the ground in Afghanistan.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the attack and described the shooting victim as a "foreign officer."

The Pentagon confirmed to ABC News today that in addition to one fatality, 15 International Security Assistance Force personnel were injured. Karzai said that both Afghan and foreign soldiers were hurt.

"The soldiers were visiting the military academy to help with the buildup of Afghan security forces," Karzai said. He blamed the attack on "enemies who don't want to see Afghanistan have strong institutions."

I just don't understand why we are even in Afghanistan still.

I just don't understand why we are even in Afghanistan still.

Takes a long time to build a military, somehow we signed up for that duty.

I've read several reports with conflicting details - and fairly significant conflicting details. German news outlets were reporting this around 9:00am, so I'm a bit surprised we've not heard anything out from the US government or military yet.

If we pulled out completely and Afghanistan goes the way of Iraq, what would your comments be?

News reports I saw this AM said Military was confirming the story.

My comments would be the same.

We were in Afghanastan to do 1 thing and that was to get Bin Laden. We did, time to leave.

If anyone thinks we can destroy Al Qaeda they are insane. You can never win a war against Terrorists because when one is gone another is formed.

Bin Laden is dead, time to leave.

I disagree. It wasn't just about Bin Laden. It is about fighting the terrorists on their turf and suppressing them so we don't have to fight them in the US.

But no name on the general?

Probably contacting family still early today before releasing name.

Then we're going to be there forever cause their is no end.

Maj. Gen. Harold Greene was the highest ranking American military to be killed since the Vietnam War.

Then we're going to be there forever cause their is no end.

If that is what it takes to prevent another 9/11, is it worth it? I say yes. Keep military advisors there as long as it takes and help these countries build their own military.

Massive deployment of the G-Bomb stops all this. Planeloads of pig entrails and carcasses ups the ante and shows them we can still out-crazy them, if they want.
