There is and there will always be a population that have talented sons / daughters and realize that their current school system is either not competitive enough, exposing them enough or advancing their skill set enough to meet their expectations. Be it good or bad, parents are parents! Parents and players transfer for two basic reasons: going to Rupp or obtaining a college scholarship. I am sure academics, social outlets, or other social variables may skew the data but simply in KY high school basketball it is about playing in Rupp or playing at the next level. Is it fair - probably not , but as parents we all want the best for our child so that probably makes it fair or worth the scrutiny. Sometimes the transfer decision works out and sometimes it doesn't.

I'm assuming this is directed at Coach Hicks response and not my posts....

 

I'm sure a local reporter thought it would make a good story if he could ask Coach Hicks some questions. I can promise you that Coach Hicks would never seek out the local media as a way to respond to some bush league online media comment.

 

I think he answered the questions as well as he could and lots of people just don't like the answers.

I'm more of a guy who enjoyed seeing North Laurel's kids roll out a banner saying "Jaguar basketball - paid for and sponsored by Shiloh's Roadhouse" than having to hear Eric Dickerson lie about who bought him a gold car 40 years later when he's doing a 30 for 30.

The article references several players who have transferred into the Scott County program. While I agree with PP92 that SC has many inherent appeals, I'm not naive enough to think that all these stars just happened to each decide to go there without any persuasion.

Also just to add to my last post, I didn't realize that it was a Georgetown paper and what you are saying makes perfect sense now.

Not implying anything about Whitaker. Hicks was referring to the #1 team in each sport having a target on its back. Hicks seems to think Harrison County is a baseball powerhouse --like Trinity in football--and they are not.

 

I'm not going to argue but how can't you consider Harrison County a baseball force?

You may be right, but I don't think what happens (& has been happening) in Christian County is comparable to Scott County nor Cordia. Hopkinsville, Christian County and University Heights have been battling for players for three decades or so. And, at one time or another, each of the three has come out of it with the "best" player or players. The only one of the three to get in trouble with the KHSAA is UHA...more than once...but that was in the 1980's.

 

There certainly seems to be enough talent to go around. Between them, those schools have won the 2nd region the last 13 years in a row. Christian County 6, Hopkinsville 4, and University Heights 3.

Hicks to say he doesn't recruit and ayers from Georgia and Florida just happen to show up at his school to play basketball is about as believable as I'm going to win the lottery tonight... And I didn't even buy a lottery ticket.

The last 20 years once a kid starts their freshman year at UHA , county it hoptown, they stay there. That has changed since Haworth got to hoptown. There have been some transfers. Anthony hickey made a move because of his dad changing schools. But the last 3 years that's changed with cager and now AJ Tyler. It will be interesting to see if anything comes of it. I know eades isn't happy.

Who knows what will happen.

Great coach and great run in the 90s. Not a current powerhouse.
