Harrison county - baseball? Sorry coach St X tigers are baseball champs, and not a single transfer on the team.

If you're implying that coach Whitaker recruits baseball players you're wrong.

I don't disagree with what he says about transferring.

 

But I also don't believe half of what he says in this article.

 

What items do you not believe?

I agree with Hick's 100%! Concentrate on the bold. If you have a kid who is good at anything, you want to give hi all the tools necessary that will help him/her to attain their fullest potential, if you have "a little extra money" and the ability to help your kid out, and you don't do it, then what kind of parent are you?

 

People have different ideas on what is best for "THEIR" children. Such as parents of private school kids, some may think it's not right to have a kid drive past a few school districts so the kid can attend a private school, maybe the school has a good sports team, or teams, maybe they have a great band, maybe they have a great choir, or academics or academic team. But the fact is, the parents are putting up a great sacrifice to give their kid(s) this opportunity, as you know it is not cheap! Even if somehow you get a break. Same with parents who move into a new school district so their kid can have more chances, or to have their kid(s) transfer. After all, if a parent is even half of a good parent, they would want their kid(s) to have it better than themselves, and will provide achievable opportunities when they are able.

 

As I said, I thought it was a bad idea for Hood to Tweet his comments, as I also mentioned, as being a former UK player, you would think he would want to stay on the good side of all of his fans and followers, not tick some of them off. I am sure not all people who are/were his fans that are unhappy are from Scott Co.. He just seemed like a rude kid.

 

And BTW, When the KHSAA comes out and says a school, any school, has done wrong, then I'll take that into account and not get deep into rumors.

The bolded brings up a great point. People move into certain neighborhoods based on the school district the neighborhood is in. If I live in a neighborhood that is in a school district that I don't like or I think is best for my kids I should be allowed to send my kid to the school I think is the best fit. I shouldn't be forced to move to a neighborhood I may not want to live in just so my kid isn't a transfer student. However, if I have the means to move into a neighborhood that the school district is in then my kid should be allowed to play immediately.

Not implying anything about Whitaker. Hicks was referring to the #1 team in each sport having a target on its back. Hicks seems to think Harrison County is a baseball powerhouse --like Trinity in football--and they are not.

Rick Jones' Dad worked at Toyota years before they moved up here. He commuted back and forth from Corbin...I remember him always saying..."if they hired me because of little rick they aren't doing me any favors, I haven't seen him play in two months because I'm on second shift."

For a while now you have had to be hired through a temp agency and work satisfactorily for two years before you can be a full time Toyota employee with full benefits.

Well, I guess anyone who might get the impression that everything isn't totally on the up and up when you have Jones, Hundley, Long, Guyn, Ivey, Jackson and more just fall into your lap over the years is just stupid for thinking what they do. Please, don't insult everyone's intelligence when staying silent would have been just fine.

In all fairness, Billy Hicks said all of the right things. Schools like Scott County do recruit themselves. If you moved to the Lexington/Georgetown area and had a kid who played basketball what school would you send him to? If I lived in that area Scott County and Lexington Catholic wouldeasily be my first two choices. Seeing as how Scott County is a lot cheaper than LexCath, my kid would likely end up at Scott County.

I'm sure a local reporter thought it would make a good story if he could ask Coach Hicks some questions. I can promise you that Coach Hicks would never seek out the local media as a way to respond to some bush league online media comment.

I remember him quite well when he was at Bondurant. I've never been one to get caught up in what school is a feeder for another school. We all knew it was highly probable that Ivey wasn't going to high school in Frankfort. I could be mistaken but if I remember correctly he was either headed to Trinity or Scott County.

I think he answered the questions as well as he could and lots of people just don't like the answers.
