Reports are sent in each month and then the Diocese reports to the government, gets the reimbursement and allocates it out among the organizations. At least that's how it was done a couple years back.

Not everyone who attends private school is rich. There is financial assistance available from the Diocese to help those in need who want their child(ren) to have a faith based education. NCC sponsors Fireworks Fest up on the Hill every year; all that money goes towards their tuition assistance program.

A lot of schools provide financial aid based on your income. Many schools also have work study programs where the student works off the tuition. With both of those combined some families could be getting very good deals on sending their kids to private schools.

But I see where your question comes from. Kinda sounds like someone driving a nice car but receives welfare. But, they could actually not be spending that much money at all.

Must have something to do with the focused nature of the school lunch program. I guess the thinking is that schools would drop the program and then there would be needy children going hungry.

I spend quite a bit of time in our cafeteria (Brossart) during the school year. IMO our school lunches have gone waaayyy downhill over the years. 40% of Brossart students now pack. There was a time when kids came to Brossart because of the positive nature of our lunches.

 

I spoke to Dick Stewart our principal at the time and asked what could be done to restore things like hot beef and hot turkey open sandwiches, meatloaf, double-deckers, three-ways, etc.. and his response was - "Blame the Federal Goverment." Instead of serving the forementioned items and having a salsd bar, it seems that every lunch was either pizza, chicken nuggets, or Tacos.

 

I applaud Highlands for saying no to selling out to the Federal Government and I hope the trend continues.

 

We will have an entirely new food service crew in place for the upcoming school year. Hopefully, the lunch issue will improve.

This may not be a popular opinion, but if the Diocese can help pay their education, they need to pony up for lunch too.

Great decision and I hope more kids buy but with options to leave campus it may only see a slight increase not to mention all the packers. Several athletes pack multiple meals and are eating all day long to gain weight. This is what my son did during his Jr/Sr yr 2012/13 and he said several football players did the same.

That would be fiscally irresponsible if funds are available from the government, wouldn't it? They're already taking a burden off the government for the education of these students, we should all be grateful for that.
