July 28, 201412 yr If you start at the very begining I say yes; I did this when I first started watching and was hooked very quickly. Got thru the first couple seasons in not time and ended up finishing those just before a new season started.
July 28, 201412 yr Author Just started Netflix and the wife and I are about to start a new show. Is this one worth investing multiple hours in to before the next season begins? Since the first season is only six episodes, I would say yes. That very first episode is outstanding.
July 28, 201412 yr First episode was awesome. The show is great IMO. Yes, it's had some trouble in pacing but the show is still great.
July 28, 201412 yr What was that at the end of the trailer? When it went black then a woman started talking...it looked like they were in some sort of hospital, but there was a guard? Was that part of the Walking Dead or just a teaser for a different show?
August 21, 201412 yr Just started Netflix and the wife and I are about to start a new show. Is this one worth investing multiple hours in to before the next season begins? The first season is pretty darn good. The rest is hit or miss. The season where they go to the farm is awful, and the season that was just on TV I didn't like so much either.

September 11, 201412 yr Author anyone else going to DVR this show? I'll try the first episode, but my suspicion is that it may not be worth watching.
September 11, 201412 yr The Mrs. and I are die hard TWD fans!! Will be anticipating the season start! :thumb: I would suggest DVRing it!!
September 11, 201412 yr Author The Mrs. and I are die hard TWD fans!! Will be anticipating the season start! :thumb: I would suggest DVRing it!! We're big fans as well, except for the second half of last season. My wife and I both thought the second half was awful.
September 11, 201412 yr Randy, can you list like the top 5 reasons why you didn't like the second half of last year? I thought the episode where Carol had to take Lizzie to "look at the flowers" was excellent and loved Glenn, Tara, Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita story arc.

I thought the episode where Carol had to take Lizzie to "look at the flowers" was excellent and loved Glenn, Tara, Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita story arc. I can't list five reasons, but I'll explain why I hated it. I thought the second half of last season was nothing but filler. They had wrapped up The Governor storyline to end the first half & they knew the next major setting would be Terminus. They wanted to leave Terminus a mystery--a cliffhanger to prepare for the upcoming season. The only problem was they still had an 8 episode second half to bridge the gap from The Governor storyline to the Terminus storyline. So what we got was an 8 episode transition from storyline to storyline. The showrunner said he wanted to really emphasize character development, which he did. And I'm fine with character development, but his vision of it sucked IMO. A lot of fans make the same criticism of the Hershel's farm season. I don't necessarily agree with them, but it does highlight a recurring issue with the show, which is dragging things out too long. That was most noticeable in the second half of last season. TWD should not be more than 13 episodes per season, or even better, 10 episodes per season. The current 16 episode format creates the danger of reducing quality. I think that happened last season. Secondarily, I'm a TWD comic book fan, and some of the characters that appear in both...well, the TV versions are just not comparable to the comic versions. TV Rick pales in comparison to comic book Rick. Michonne and Andrea are both WAY BETTER comic book characters than TV show characters. And I think the same holds true for Tyreese. That became clearer and clearer during the second half last season. My favorite episode of the second half was the first one, because it was essentially a carbon copy of the comic book. Other than that, I just didn't like the rest of it. And there couldn't have been a worse way to end the season than with that cheesy line Rick utters in the train car. Something about, "They're messing with the wrong people." Having said all of that, I am very much looking forward to this new season. And I am hoping it doesn't repeat the mistakes of the last season.
September 11, 201412 yr I would also add that with the deviations made from the comic book on the farm in season 2, they did a good job bringing it back as close as possible with season 3. Completely agree with Andrea being much better in the comics. With Rick I can see what you're saying but he's by far been the most toyed with character by each show runner. (Disclosure - I've read the comic books up through the governor's mutiliation.) Do you prefer comic book governor or TV governor?

(Disclosure - I've read the comic books up through the governor's mutiliation.) Do you prefer comic book governor or TV governor? You are correct that they have toyed with Rick a lot. I don't believe the problems with Rick are the fault of actor Andrew Lincoln. It's like the writers or the showrunners or whoever have neutered him. As far as your Governor question, I could go with either one. Comic Governor was definitely more barbaric & ruthless. As a villain, he was better. But TV Governor was effective too & he had a charm or charisma that Comic Governor didn't have. It made him more realistic and helped to see why he gained such a following. It doesn't bother me that they deviate the story from the comic (although I did like that first episode of the second half because it was from the comics). I actually like there being some differences. What bothers me is the deviation of the characters. Overall, I am looking forward to Season 5. I just wasn't at all satisfied by how Season 4 wrapped up.
September 12, 201412 yr They say books are always better than the movie. I may use that as the reason I don't like to read and I enjoy TWD.
