Lee has one tough game bad draw for them.

Digging into some of my old records I found where Owsley was 8-0 agaist district competition in 1982 and 2000. But I would say that a 10-0 record is probably unmatched as far as total number of wins.

Wolfe County had two undefeated years in district play in 1986 and again in 1987. The 1986 version had jackson city for a brief stint in the 56th district and made Wolfe County a perfect 10-0 vs. district competition. They were 8-0 the next season for 18 straight wins vs 56th district competition.

I remember those Wolve teams all too well. Steve Johnson, Kenny Bell, Bird, Hatton, etc.. Could possibly be the best teams in Wolfe's history. Of course, there's a few Wolfe fans who remember their teams of the early'70s that might beg to differ. But the '86 and '87 teams were loaded. I actually felt that they would win the region one of those years, but I believe they lost a close game to Hazard, who was also loaded with talent those two years.

I think it will be between Hazard and Lee Co.

I know I'll hurt some people's feelings by saying this, but is that not the weakest-sounding regional tournament field in the history of eastern Kentucky?

 

How can you have a 14th Region Tournament without Perry Central, Breathitt County and/or Knott Central?

You must not have understood me. It is a school of 60(sixty) high schools students. This is not a misprint. Thats 60 students. But you will understand when you get there and see 2500 JBS fans.

I think this Leslie/Lee game will be the best game of the first round. Even if you dont have a team playing it will be well worth the price of admission.

They were excellent, but lost in a heartbreaker to Hazard in OT in Memorial Gym. Lee beat M.C. Napier that night and lost to Hazard in final. One of the most exciting nights of high school basketball I can remember.

Watch out for Estill co in the 14th they have alot to prove and there ready to play.I think this team can go deeper on there bench than any team in the 14th and at tourny time this could make the difference. What do you think?????????

Without a doubt one of the weaker region tournaments in recent history -- statewide. Scott County is licking their chops waiting for the winner of this one.

I think the best 14th region team to not make the sweet sixteen was the 1995-1996 Leslie Co. team. They beat PCC for the 54th District Championship, but couldn't stop Scott Moore and Breathitt Co. He was on fire.

I have to agree with you, that 87 wolfe team won the Pulaski county tournament that year. That tournament had the 86 state champ (pulaski co.) and the eventual state champ for 87 in the tournament (clay co.). Wolfe won that tournament, which was a much tougher tournament to win than the 14th region was that year.....even though hazard had a heck of a ball club.
