I know I'll hurt some people's feelings by saying this, but is that not the weakest-sounding regional tournament field in the history of eastern Kentucky?

 

How can you have a 14th Region Tournament without Perry Central, Breathitt County and/or Knott Central?

 

Congratulations to those who made it though. This is the year to be a good Class A team in the 14th.

Where is the tournament in the 14th this year?

 

Hate to see Jackson City and Cordia draw each other because one of those smaller schools will not make it out of the first round.

 

 

By drawing each other though it means one of them will. In most years, both would lose in the first round.

I wouldn't want Knott Central or Breathitt County in the tournament this year. Just because they are traditionally strong doesn't have anything to do with this season.

 

Plain and simple, the best teams survived, the rest are at home.

 

Hazard, JBS, & Lee County are the favorites in that order. Just my opinion.

JBS wont be making it out of the first round, Stark.

Actually ARC, Lee is 8-0 against elite eight. 4-0 vs. Estill, 2-0 vs. Jackson,

2-0 vs. Wolfe. Lee is 10-0 vs. 56th district teams this year, and I seriously doubt that that has ever happened before. How about it Professor? I do agree with your point ARC.

Digging into some of my old records I found where Owsley was 8-0 agaist district competition in 1982 and 2000. But I would say that a 10-0 record is probably unmatched as far as total number of wins.

Is the bracket just like the games will be played? Hazard, Wolfe, Estill, and JBS on one side of the bracket with the other 4 on the other side?

6 of the 8 teams participated in the all "a" classic this year, only Leslie County and Estill County did not. Lee County and Leslie County got a tough draw. They will really earn it (barring some upset in the top bracket) if they win the 14th.

Knott is now an All A Classic school and Breathitt is knocking on the door. These schools have lost enrollment and will never again dominate like they did when they had 1100 to 1200 students. Breathitt dominated in the late '50s and early '60s, and off and on throughout the '80s. Knott dominated immediately after their consolidation in the '70s, and somewhat in the '80s and '90s. Now schools like Powell and Estill are larger than those two schools, and Lee and Wolfe aren't that much smaller.

 

Of course, Perry Central will usually be a threat every year. It is unusual for them not to be there, and in a few years the same will be said about Letcher Central. Too many kids to pick from for them to have many 'down' years.

I think Lee got a tough outing for the tourney. Estill needs to get past Hazard then they have a good chance versus Lee or Leslie.

I don't think it hurts anyones feelings but the truth is that a name alone will not get you into the regional tournament. There is alot of parity in all eastern ky regions this year. It might sound weak in name alone but if you watched these teams play you might be impressed.

Wolfe vs Hazard - Monday (First Game)

The 16th is weaker. Greenup County, a team Jackson City split with during the season, will more than likely be in the semifinals.

Fairview could possibly come out of this region. :eek:

I have seen many of these teams play this year and it could be Lee County and Estill County in the finals. Lee has won all four meetings this year but Estill has closed the gap.

Lee's average winning total for 4 games against Estill is 6 points. I agree, these two could very well be in the championship game.

Lee first has to navigate a tough draw with Leslie, and Estill will have to figure a way to beat Hazard, a team they lost to in OT at Memorial about 2 weeks ago. On a neutral floor it could be a different outcome.

I don't think JBS can handle Estill in the first round, and Lee, if they get past Leslie, shouldn't have too much trouble with their second round opponent. Clear those hurdles and they'll play once more....and rock on 56th:dancingpa

The winner of the Lee/Leslie game will be in the final. I like Estill, but I think Hazard got the best draw and should come out of the top. I predict Leslie over Hazard in the Championship game.
