Anyone else hearing this?

 

Rumor has it, and there are MANY, that Sr. Alexus Mayes has transferred to Covington Holmes. Mayes, was a two-year starter for NewCath, and with her possible departure leaves the Breds with ZERO muscle and height down low. I've spoken to quite a few NewCath folks and a couple "outsiders", and they say she has surfaced at Holmes for her senior year.

What does that do to NCC? And what does that do for Holmes?

Did she move or was Covington her original home?

My daughter says she is gone from NCC for sure and probably back to Holmes. Said NCC just wasn't a good fit for her.

Would that move make Holmes the favorite to win the 9th or still one step behind Holy Cross?

I would still put both HC and NDA over Holmes in the district.

And we have another transfer situation to tee up. The Floyd family probably is glad to hear this.

So Holmes is getting two top transfers now??? And NCC is all of a sudden not a good fit after 3 complete years? Holmes should be strong if this is the case. It will add to their depth. But just a question, is this the right place for Mayes? Holmes plays very fast and I'm not sure that's Mayes' game. Maybe I'm wrong.

Here's the statement many may not agree with. I wouldn't put them in any particular order. Those are your top 3 and any of them can beat the other at any time.

 

HHS doesn't have the "flash" of athleticism like Holmes or the size of HC, but they have other attributes that those others can't match either. They have a team of great ball handlers, a team of very smart players, a team of shooters, play excellent team defense, excellent coaching, a lot of varsity experience and have unbelievable team chemistry. They never "wow" anyone, so no one likes to admit they are really good. But they can beat you in many different ways. Not guaranteeing anything, but they will have a say in the end.

And we have another transfer situation to tee up. The Floyd family probably is glad to hear this.

All she has to say is she can't afford the tuition assuming she does actually pay to go to ncc.

From what I saw last year in the regional, holy cross is clearly the team to beat. Highlands a distant second. I thought ncc may struggle this year with or without Mayes. However, the Ware girl may keep them in games by herself. Very impressive player. I don't know what they have coming up either.

How is she eligible? She played varsity. Does KHSAA just look the other way like they do in Lexington and Louisville? They sure don't in our Region!

TRUST ME, nobody gets a "free ride" at NewCath. Some do receive tuition assistance (NewCath has MANY fundraisers to provide this), but at most it only covers half the full tuition.

Don't get me wrong, while Michaela Ware has improved her game greatly over the years and is fun to watch, she's NOT Nikki Kiernan who can dominate a game. That being said, I look for a stellar senior year campaign from the speedy Ms. Ware.
