I think it is just one of those years where the pendulum is swinging the other way for Cooper. With 5 public High Schools in a Closed Enrollment County it is going to be hard for any of the schools in Boone to maintain a competitive team year in and year out.

They will be going through some growing pains but are headed in the right direction imo. I love the idea of platooning, I just hope they have the athletes to do so. We knew QB play would be down, but hopefully time behind center will get the QB more prepared as the season draws closer.

Cooper was 3-8 a year ago. That pendulum started swinging last year, although looking at their schedule I doubt they will be any worse than 3-8 in 2014.

It's called Pioneer domination! Get used to it!

Please explain how this matters. Does Boone County change the enrollment borders yearly or something? The talent only lives in certain areas? All Boone County schools have 5A or 6A enrollment with specified borders. How would open enrollment make them more competitive? For reference, see Scott High School in Open Kenton County. They are improving, but open enrollment has absolutely killed there football program for 30 years.

SK has a huge O-line and running game but SK also has a really good passing game to. The passing game is going to be better than people think. Logan Winkler is going to be unstoppable.

??? You don't think open enrollment would make a difference with 3 schools within 3 miles of eachotehr then I can't help you.

I personally know of 3 kids, one being a very good QB who would be at Cooper right now if they had open enrollment. You may not understand it but it does make a difference.

So basically, you think kids will choose cooper over other schools in Boone County and open enrollment would benefit Cooper. What about the schools those kids leave? Did open enrollment benefit them? What if all the best players in the County choose Ryle because they have turf?

In Kenton County, the best players in the county chose Dixie for years. This contributed to why SK and Scott were so bad for so long. In Louisville there are the have's and the have not's because of open enrollment.

What ever happened to the concept of taking the kids in your district and developing them into players?

Well lets first ask how close are the public schools to eachother in Kenton County? Boone County has 5 public High Schools all within 10 miles from my house, 4 schools within 7 miles from my house and 3 of the schools all within 5 miles from my house. You see there is a big difference between Kenton County and Boone County where as in Boone County the way the school districts are divided up we have kids being bused across the county to go to a school while another school is right down the street. Are you asking me if Cooper would have a better team if we had open enrollment, yes I believe they would. What about the other schools? Well in the first place this many should not have been built in the first place, instead they should have built one big school and combined Ryle and Cooper students into 1 which would take care of some of the problems we have in the first place.

I always thought Cooper was placed in an odd area, but I guess that is what they had to do to help all three high schools of over crowding. But according to the Boone County, the 2010 population was 118,000 people. The estimated populations of 2020, 2030, and 2040 are 153,000 , 186,000, and 217,000 people respectively. I don't think the county's populations will reach those marks that quick but if those numbers are close to what actually happens then 4 high schools was going to be needed sooner rather than later.

So open enrollment would not benefit all schools in the district. You think it would benefit Cooper, but it could just as easily destroy Cooper if their best players left every year to go to Ryle, BC or Conner. If I am a kid and have the choice of what school to go to in Boone County, I am going to Ryle because they have a turf field and better facilities. Regardless of the distance of schools from each other, open enrollment in Boone County would create the haves and the have nots. Do you realize how many players lived within walking distance of Scott High School over the years and chose to got to Dixie or Simon Kenton instead?

If Boone County would have had open enrollment when Cooper opened, there is no chance kids would have chosen to go there over one of the established programs.
