Cooper/Simon Kenton 7 on 7

Yeah I remember hearing about that. I would say Boone needs turf the most. Their baseball field isn't very nice to begin with. Practicing in the outfield does not help.

Here is the one problem with Turf fields that seems to be overlooked a lot. They also need upkeep and replacing. I believe the lifespan for field turf is around 8 years. It's not cheap to replace them and soon you will be seeing more and more turf fields in the area that are in horrible shape.

SK's field is becoming very worn. Cooper's game there last year although it was in the monsoon you could still see all the worn areas. There were more areas that were just black from the little black rubber balls than was green from the plastic grass. It's several hundred thousand dollars to replace the turf. I'm just curious to see how many schools actually replace the turf when it needs to be replaced. Simon Kenton has money, when will they replace their turf?

Nice/well kept grass > turf. But grass becomes hard to manage when freshman ,jv, varsity soccer and football are on it. I think turf is worth the price but not if it means border line bankrupting the athletic department to get it. Turf also needs to be cared for and dragged regularly to spread the black rubber out over the field. Also, turf SHOULD be replaced every so often but local school have been using theirs for 10+ years (Beechwood, CCH, Highlands) and yes, it does become very very worn.

You don't even need to buy new turf. Just find turf from a college that is being discarded. That is what BCPWFL did. Kind of embarrassing though, that they could find a way to put turf field down and three HS programs can not!

You are right on target!!!

It is a shame and a joke.

BCPWFL put in brand new turf.

The money was donated. You know the same as S Alexander tried to do for Boone Co. but Ryle and the money in that school district trumps all others.

I have no problem with Ryle having turf, the problem I have is the BOE who told Boone County High School they could not have turf field unless all the other High Schools in the county got Turf field also. Then the money from Triple Crown trumped all other schools in the county and were allowed to put turf in there but not the other schools.

The BOE is to blame imo.

Alexander offered to pay about a third of the costs.

Sorry for getting so far off topic. I don't know any school districts money situations so I'm simply asking. I know Boone county school district has an extra high school than the Kenton county school district. But how can the Kenton county district afford to have all three of their high school have turf but not the Boone county district?

Boone County schools do not even fund their athletic departments. From what I understand, the only thing the BOE pays for is coaches salaries and some of the costs to maintain the fields. There is essentially no athletic budget at Boone County schools, all the funding for the high schools is done off the gate of the boys basketball teams and football teams. The BOE does not even pay for buses to away games.

Kenton County gets upwards of more than $9 million - MILLION - more than Boone Co. from state and federal funding. Goes a LONG way in the perks department. And yes, Kenton has fewer students.

Which is even more disturbing why they would tell a school they can't put in turf. It's not their money.

Heard it was U G L Y - completely one-sided. Hope the Jags come out better tomorrow at Dixie.

Why do they get so much more than Boone?
