Inside the Reds

Featured Replies

Actually the Yankees have only scored 9 more runs than the Reds. I don't think they'll be giving away any offense if they decide to try and make a playoff push.

Plus the Yankees don't have a farm system that is rich with talent, either.

and I got pelted with rocks & garbage for asking "IF" they were to retool, how should they do it?

Glad to see I was thinking the same way as the front office.

Don't be so sensitive. Re-read the thread and you'll see there were some solid answers to your blanket query.

To be fair, I was one who pelted you (so to speak), and it wasn't for the idea of the post, it was for the fact that you made a case for trading everyone in a uniform. I was the one in December that gave them 75 wins, which they'll likely exceed comfortably, so our trains of thought weren't that far off, but you threw the whole roster out with the bath-water in your post....in my opinion.

Phillips to the 15-day DL, option Tucker B. to Louisville, recall Contreras and Partch

The brilliant management of the Reds now has the roster shaped to have 14 pitchers and just 3 bench players. Idiots.

Right before the All-Star break where all the pitchers are going to get rest. Brilliant...

Point taken. Should have been more clear that these were some of the moves that could / couldn't be made. Never intended to suggest that ALL of them should be made.

No worries. If the biggest problem the Reds have in 2014 is that they were "too good" to rebuild, that ain't all bad!!!

Agree with HT. It's been fun, and the starting pitching has been great, but I doubt they sustain either. Tread deadline will be exciting.

I really think they can stay in the race b/c I don't believe in Milwaukee or Pittsburgh. Cards losing Molina is far worse than Reds losing BP. Their starting pitching as you've said numerous times will win them games.

I don't disagree, but what IF they deal Cueto? Still enough pitching? Who takes his place?

Whats with you and the bench players, its not like any bench guy they call up can hit a baseball, if they could they would already be up here.

Because if you have a game like Wednesday where 2 starters get hurt or you go into an extra innings game, you'll have relief pitchers having to bat in crucial situations or guys playing positions they've never seen before. You need at least 4, preferably 5 bench spots.

Cingrani I guess if healthy. They could still compete without Cueto if Votto and BP were healthy. Definitely an interesting topic.

I understand the idea that trading Cueto will improve the organization, but I have a hard time trading away a top-flight SP.

When you have 2 of them and a 3rd guy in Bailey who has the stuff of a top flight pitcher, I think you can.

I think it's a matter of the inability to sign both Cueto and Latos, so you have to try to get what you can while you can instead of being left holding the bag when he bolts in FA.
