Tilghman may be a too 3 team but they need to prove themselves. Always wildly inconsistent.

 

Beware Monroe County. I think they would be my #6.

 

Etown is a dark horse. Think they make a major step forward under Brown with all that talent.

Usually I am cautiously optimistic about Belfry but for once I feel confident with them as a Pre-Season #1.

 

Pirates did have some big hits due to graduation, namely Sani Warren and Hayden Hatfield, but not sure the Pirates have returned this much on defense and returned as much shear talent in quite some time. A ton of talented kids who went from liabilities to assets by November who have not even scratched their potential. Add in a pair of very talented transfers and throw in a veteran line which was dominant at times and you have the makings of a very good Belfry squad.

 

With all that said Belfry will be challenged off the bat against Henry Clay and may be exposed. Haywood's teams have a tendency to stumble out of the gate. Not sure any other 3A team though has a better stock value though come November.

I think there are going to be some very good games in Class 3A this season in regular season as well as the playoffs.

Bourbon is also getting Zach Mastin from Harrison County to fill in at MLB.

Would love to see some new blood in the mix. Nothing against Trinity (solid program) but it was nice to have different teams in the mix this year. Gets boring to see same ole same ole, in the brackets. Like to see a Dark Horse like East Carter and or Western Hills in 3A, Owen Co. Carroll Co. in 2A, Scott High or East Jessamine in 5A. Frankfort High or Paris in 1A, Muhlenburg Co. in 6A. Spencer Co. in 4A.

Big jet, some of those you mentioned are pretty far fetched, to say the least. In 3a specifically, if you're looking for a dark horse, keep on eye on Monroe & Ft Campbell in the west, Larue & Corbin in R2 and maybe Mason & Pike Central from the east. Other than those, it's likely going to be the usual suspects.

Really like the way Monroe's Program runs. They always seem to get the most out of their talent and build toward a playoff run.

I actually believe it may be a bridge year for Belfry. Bourbon will pose more of a challenge than in the past.

Think Belfry will be as good if not better than the previous year.

 

Pirates return a whole lot from last year (essentially the entire Oline and Defense) and all those Freshman who played so well last year will be a year older, wiser, and stronger. The big question for Belfry will be replacing QB/CB Sani Warren and DT Hayden Hatfield, and if X Willis comes back 100% from his ACL injury.

 

Throw on top of that the fact Belfry had 3 transfers come in who will definitely help. If Willis is 100% he and the Joplin kid immediately fill the void from graduation at HB and alongside Austin Hatfield makes Belfry a very dangerous offensive team.

 

 

Bourbon is the team I see with more questions of the two. The Colonels have a couple excellent players returning but have to replace their QB, best WR, their two best defensive players, and more pieces on the line.

 

I actually see Bourbon, while still clearly being the favorite in their region, coming back to the pack a little more.

 

On the whole I see a lot of parity in 3A this year. Whereas in year's past you had Belfry and Central at the top then a cluster of about 5 teams who could push them... this year I find it hard to list anyone as anything resembling a dominant team and I think this class goes about 10-11 teams deep in terms of schools you could see in Bowling Green.

 

Will be an exciting year and it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see two teams not named Belfry or Central playing for the title....or to see that same matchup once again.
