Agree 100%. Is it outrageous to pay $8 for a beer at the game? Yes, but I don't mind it that much. (I don't do it that often) I love going to a game and sipping on a beer or two or three.

I'm sorry but I don't want to have to go buy a card then go buy a beer. I'll either buy a beer from a vendor if I have cash on me or from the concessions if I need to use my card. I won't stand in two lines for a beer.

People are too lazy to bake a pizza from Papa Murphy's, how many of them are going to want to leave the comfort of their seats to pour their own beer?

Yeah I don't go to many games(when it's not football season), so when I do, I do it big. Drink beer before, during and after. Gets pricey.

I agree with you. But when I go to a ballgame, I just HAVE to have at least one beer and a redhot. Its, its baseball etiquette for heaven's sake!!

At $.38 an ounce, that puts 16 ounces at about $6.10 of Bud Light and Budweiser. Beer vendors at GABP sell 16 ounce cans for $8.25. I'm not sure on the price at the current concession stands. I want to say its $9.25 for 20 ounces.

 

Delaware North, mentioned in the article, runs the vending in Minn., also runs the vending at GABP. With the All-Star game being in Cincy next year, I wouldn't be surprised to see these machines if it goes well this year.

 

Some interesting thoughts and questions for me, but I'll hold off until others have a chance to read and comment.

 

My take on the idea is along the same lines as yours. I'd say this puts concession workers in more peril than it does the actual beer vendors. My guess is this is a step to eliminate concession beer sales, must be a cost cutting measure though my NKU math can't quite figure out how yet.

 

As for beer vendors, I still see the need for them. Too many people don't want to get up and stand in line for a beer (or other products).

 

My biggest initial peeve with this idea is if I want to go buy a dog and a beer, I now have to stand in line twice (or perhaps three times including the purchase of a beer card? Is that a separate kiosk, or are the cards purchased at a concession stand?).

Just a matter of time for this trend. Eventually restaurants will be using machines/electronics.
